The nominees for Outstanding Drama Series at The Daytime Emmys are out. Numerous outlets are reporting that this year, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless will compete against each other for the top honor. Soap Central has the inside scoop on what the shows submitted to earn their nominations.
Why only three for Outstanding Drama Series at The Daytime Emmys

In past years, we've seen up to six shows nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. In 2013, One Life to Live had gotten a best show nod even though it had only been on the air for a few weeks in January 2012.
This year, the Daytime Emmys are enforcing a rule in which no more than 50% of entries can make the final cut. According to the Daytime Emmys, "The default nominee target for each category is five (5) nominees and one (1) winner. However, there are some categories (notably, Daytime Drama Program and Daytime Personality - Daily) where the number of nominees is fewer.
"According to National Awards Committee guidelines, in any category where there are fewer than ten (10) submissions, no more than 50% of submitted entries may be nominated. This is a longstanding rule that the National Awards Committee is enforcing across all competitions to ensure the integrity of NATAS [National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences] competitions and maintain the reputation of excellence for nominees."
And the Daytime Emmy goes to

Soap Central has learned what each of the three nominated serials for Outstanding Drama Series has submitted to try to win Daytime Emmy gold.
DAYS submitted two consecutive episodes that dealt with Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) memorial, which took place in St. Luke's Garden. The episode was filled with familiar favorites, flashbacks, and heartfelt tributes to Julie's (Susan Seaforth Hayes) beloved husband. At the end of the second episode, following the tributes, Julie was stunned to meet Doug Hayes III (Peyton Meyer).
GH sent in for consideration a moving episode in which Gregory Chase (Gregory Harrison) fulfilled his dying wish, in which he served as the officiator at his son Chase's (Josh Swickard) marriage to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton).
The soap's other submission showcased a showdown between Ava Jerome (Maura West) and Kristina Corinthos (Kate Mansi), which resulted in the latter falling through a window and into the Metro Court pool.
Y&R chose to share the episode in which Sharon's (Sharon Case) pills had been tampered with, and she hallucinated Cameron Kirsten (Linden Ashby). An unstable Sharon plotted revenge against Daniel (Michael Graziadei) as she blamed him for Cassie's (Camryn Grimes) death years ago.
The CBS soap's other submission was the wedding of Devon (Bryton James) and Abby (Melissa Ordway). In that episode, there was a car crash involving Sharon and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), and the revelation that Aunt Jordan (Colleen Zenk) and Ian Ward (Ray Wise) were in cahoots against the Newmans.
