Allison Lanier wrapped up her three-year run as Summer Newman on The Young and the Restless today. Her TV mother, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis), took to social media to praise her on-screen daughter as she embarks on new horizons.
Michelle Stafford bids farewell to Allison Lanier on The Young and the Restless

"This Girl! What can I say about you?" Stafford began her Instagram post on Lanier. "You walked into this role and immediately made it your own. The only unfortunate thing is most of the time and in particular during the first year and a half, our characters were at odds 😊 Lots of fighting on screen… But man, you jumped in and killed EVERY SINGLE DAY."
"You are an extraordinary actress," Stafford continued. "What a pleasure for me to work with you. Truly a pleasure. You are a CONSUMMATE professional. I have no doubt we will be seeing you on the screen sooner than later. I completely believe in you. Thank you for inhabiting the character so thoroughly. I truly felt like I had a real daughter in you. Go out there and soar, you gorgeous girl. I absolutely 100% know you will ❤️ Thank you for the pleasure @allisonvlanier."
"Michelllleee, you are MOTHER on screen and off!" Lanier responded in the comments section of Stafford's post. "I'm soo lucky I got to learn from someone so talented AND kind. Love you!! 👑💗."
Stafford and Lanier's pals from The Young and the Restless weighed in on Stafford's post with positive comments about Lanier on her departure. "@allisonvlanier is a gem!" raved Eileen Davidson (Ashley), "love her. She did a beautiful job as Summer. onward Allison!" Added Tracey Bregman (Lauren): "Go get ‘em @allisonvlanier You are amazing!"
Lanier let her followers know that she would be leaving Genoa City earlier this week via her X, formerly Twitter, account. "I've loved the journey and learned so much but it's time to grow in a different direction...very grateful for all the Y&R fans who have supported me."
The writers devised a way to get Summer off the canvas when both Sally (Courtney Hope) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) broke the news to Summer that they were both exiting their roles at Marchetti. The two women are joining their beaus at their respective new media ventures.

Naturally, Summer was shocked, but she wished her friends well. After bidding adieu to her parents, Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis, and Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Harrison (Redding Munsell), Summer bid farewell to Genoa City.
Soap Central joins Lanier's pals from The Young and the Restless in wishing her well in her next endeavor.
