The Young and the Restless combined Halloween with a little bit of Father's Day by showing us adorable, heartfelt scenes that were tinged with drama between Kyle and his son, Harrison. Their respective portrayers, Michael Mealor and Redding Munsell, scored not only a trophy for Kyle's costume but also Soap Central's Performer of the Week for Y&R honors.

Kyle tried his best not to show his disappointment to his son after he returned to Genoa City from Los Angeles without Claire (Hayley Erin). Her absence was noticeable as her 'Three Little Pigs' house of sticks costume was absent from the ones Kyle (house of straw) and Harrison (house of brick) were wearing.

While restocking the candy for 'trick or treaters,' Kyle flashed back to seeing Holden (Nathan Owens) and Claire in Los Angeles. Inquisitive Harrison wanted to know when his stepmom was coming home, making it harder for Kyle to hide his dismay.

Kyle's aware that Harrison's had a great deal of change. (The boy has had two fathers and three moms in his short life.) Mealor softened the tone of his voice, knowing that he was talking to a child, but also knowing that his kid is quite intuitive and he couldn't hide the truth from him.

Trying to keep things upbeat, Kyle said he couldn't stay away for Halloween, but Harrison couldn't help but be disappointed. When Harrison left to get some candy, Mealor allowed Kyle's façade to drop.

"We'll see," Kyle replied with zero commitment in his voice when Harrison wondered if Claire could throw a Halloween party next year. Harrison handing his dad a piece of his favorite candy meant more to Kyle than it might have under normal circumstances.

Kyle tried to downplay Claire's absence, but the look Mealor put on his character's face betrayed what he was truly feeling. "Maybe she went 'trick or treating,' or she went to a party," Harrison innocently suggested, too young to comprehend that Claire's absence had a deeper meaning. Again, Mealor had Kyle keep the pain inside.

"I hope she didn't run into the Big Bad Wolf in L.A.," Harrison chuckled. Kyle quietly said he hoped not too.

Bravo to Mealor for playing the role in Kyle's life we don't often see -- an attentive dad, who did his best not to drag his young son into his drama. Kudos also to Munsell for playing Harrison as inquisitive and bright, and not overly precocious, as often is the case with young performers.
