What happened on The Young and the Restless

At Adam’s office, Adam informed Chelsea that Newman Media’s story on Aristotle Dumas being Cane Ashby has hit all their social media platforms. Chelsea wondered why Adam wasn’t in a better mood. He informed her that part of the Dumas article leads back to Chancellor Industries and affects Billy. Adam revealed that Chelsea acknowledged that Billy partially put a target on his back.
Billy entered and asked Adam if he was supposed to be grateful to him for the hatchet job in the article. Adam said that he went easy on Billy. Billy pointed out that Cane was a threat, and it was reckless to attack his character.
Billy enlisted Chelsea’s aid to make Adam see that he wasn’t the enemy. Adam maintained that everything in the article about Dumas and Billy was true. He told Billy he was never up for the job. Chelsea asked Adam to stop. Chelsea suggested they move on. Billy told Adam he didn’t know what he was up against. Adam called Billy a loud, yappy dog with nothing to back him up. Billy walked out. Adam apologized to Chelsea. He said Billy gets to him, but that he wasn’t worried about “that jackass.” Chelsea said it was all far from over.
Meanwhile, Sharon treated Nick to a treat at Crimson Lights. He said she knew him too well, and added he knew her. Nick asked Sharon if she was worried about Mariah. Sharon said Mariah must have gone into the office early. She wished she could help her, but Sharon said Mariah has to be ready.
Nick tried to cheer up Sharon by telling her he was assigned to buddy up to Cane to see what he was up to. Sharon wondered if Victor was truly worried about Cane. Nick said his father was concerned with good cause.
Sharon was surprised that the Newmans could be intimidated by Cane or anyone. She wondered if Cane could even steal Chancellor Industries. Nick pointed out that Cane invited not just the Newmans, but the Abbotts and Devon and Lily, too. Sharon reminded Nick that people died at the Chateau. She wondered why it always had to be Nick coming to the rescue.
Sharon asked Nick to look at what happened over the past year, including the deaths of Heather, Chance, and Damian, and also, her and Phyllis being kidnapped. Nick promised to be careful. Nick added he wasn’t just doing it for his parents, but also for Sharon. Maybe Cassidy First could be one of Cane’s targets. Sharon pointed out Cane would have a big public relations problem on his hands as Cassidy First donates so much to charity. Nick says Cane would have to go through him first if he goes after Sharon’s company. Sharon wondered what she did to deserve him.
Nick said Cassie would be upset if they let a company named after her go. Sharon said it was nice to just sit there and talk with Nick. Sharon recalled doing a lot of crying with Nick. She added that she'd forgotten how easy it was to be around him. She added she felt closer to him than she’d felt in a long time. Nick said he could tell Sharon or show her his answer. He leaned in to kiss her just as Adam and Chelsea arrived and spied the near-smooch.
Chelsea and Adam brought Nick and Sharon up to speed on the article on Cane. Nick shared Victor’s plan to have Nick get close to Cane. Adam wondered why they’d put out a hit piece on Cane if they were going to ally with him?
Nick said Victor wanted a good cop/bad cop thing going on with Cane. Adam said, of course, he’d be the bad cop. Sharon said this wasn’t a bad idea. Nick said Cane’s not going anywhere. Adam wondered why Victor thought this would be a good plan. Chelsea said she was sick of worrying about what Cane was up to. She added he should be worried about them.
After Nick left, Sharon shared with Chelsea and Adam that she’d spoken to Nina about Chance. Adam wondered why Chance was even there. Sharon said that Cane feared for his life. Chelsea wondered if anyone was blaming Cane for Chance and Damian’s deaths. Sharon said Cane had no idea his assistant was mentally unstable.
Adam wondered if Cane was a little off himself because Cane lied to everyone. “The whole thing was just bizarre,” Adam said. Sharon concurred that it was odd to go through a maze just to get a drink or go for a swim. She added there were nice moments, too. Adam observed that Nick and Sharon got closer. Sharon said it’d be nice to have the same happy ending with Nick that Adam and Chelsea had.
On Cane’s train in Genoa City, he said he’d reveal his plans to Lily if she helped break the news of what he’s been doing to their kids. Lily asked for honesty. He said he wanted Chancellor, and that was the beginning, middle, and end. Lily accused her ex of hiding something bigger. Lily said she has zero issues with watching Victor and Nikki get what they deserved, but she wanted to know what else Cane wanted. She threatened to tell Charlie and Mattie the whole truth if he wasn’t honest with her.
Cane couldn’t believe Lily would turn Charlie and Mattie against him. Cane reminded them that the kids were off limits. Lily said that was before he brought Colin back into their lives. Lily recalled Colin trying to kidnap their kids. Cane pointed out that Colin was dead. Lily worried about Colin’s influence on Cane. She maintained she did not have the whole story from Cane.
Cane said he never saw Lily as a pushover. She believed he treated her that way. Lily said she wouldn’t change her mind. Either he tells her what he’s up to, or she talks to the kids alone. Lily doesn’t buy that Cane was lying about who he was to protect his kids. Cane offered to tell Lily his plans after they met with Charlie and Mattie. Lily said, “No deal.”
Cane asked Lily what he could do to change her mind. He pointed out that she was responsible for his becoming so cutthroat. “You just won’t stop, will you?” Lily asked about Cane’s efforts to appeal to their past connection.
Lily told him that them getting back together was a fantasy. Cane told Lily he loved her, and he’d give up his entire plan if Lily went back to him. Next, Lily got a text from Devon at the same time Cane got one from Amanda. The texts were about Adam’s story that Cane was Dumas. Lily said Mattie and Charlie would find out about Cane being Dumas from a news site. She’s upset that they let their kids down. Cane said he’d take the hit.
Lily informed the kids that Cane had something to talk to them about. Cane said he had neither had an excuse nor would he offer one to their kids. He wanted her to help Lily do some damage control. She said she would under one very important condition. He needed to call off his plans against the Newmans, Abbotts, and Winters. Then, she will help him with their kids.
Meanwhile, Victoria apologized to Billy about the hit piece. He said he wasn’t going to blame her for what Adam and Victor did. Adam thought it was odd that they went after Cane. Vicki said the kids were out riding and didn’t have their phones. Billy said he was fine. Vicki questioned Billy’s attitude.
Over a drink, Billy said he was worried about Victoria because of Cole. He said he talked to the kids, who said Vicki was doing her “busy thing,” taking care of them and Claire. Billy asked if Vicki had anyone to talk to. Vicki said Chelsea and Adam have been great. Billy was suspicious of Adam being compassionate. He added that he would always be there for Victoria. She recalled one of the last days in the ICU when Cole was fading, and he told one of the nurses that he was one of the luckiest men in the world because of Vicki and Claire.
Victoria invited Billy to stay or look for the kids on the grounds. Billy said he’d stay put as he wanted to avoid Victor and/or Nick. Vicki was surprised that Billy and Nick were having problems. Victoria asked her ex if he was getting into business with Cane. Billy deflected.
Nick showed up at Cane’s train. Cane said he and Lily were having a private moment. Nick said he was there to apologize for the Newman Media story on him. Cane was suspicious. Nick said he and Victor knew about the article, but they were hoping he’d sit on it. Cane was surprised Nick came over to see him, especially as his security team locked him up.
Cane wondered if Nick was offering an olive branch. Nick said he and Cane had never been foes, and he and Lily were friends. “I don’t wish to have a war with anyone,” Cane maintained. Lily shared that Mattie was calling her. Nick left after inviting Cane to have a drink sometime. Then, Mattie called again. Before Lily picked up, she asked Cane for a reply. “That ball is in your court,” Lily told her ex.
