What happened on The Young and the Restless

Outside of Crimson Lights, Jack issued a formal statement about the status of Jabot Cosmetics. He explained that Jabot would be up and running in the near future and described it as a family company. Jack asked customers to be patient during the company's difficult, yet transitional period. He hoped it would buy enough time to get ahead of the situation. Jack iterated that they weren't hiding from anything. It was simply a bold move.
Adam and Chelsea encountered Jack, and he was furious with both of them. He asked how they could release the reports on Jabot, especially since they understood why he had done what he had. Jack thought he and Adam were closer than that, and he felt as if it was the ultimate betrayal. Adam defended their article as news, and since it was legitimate press, they had to report on it. Chelsea questioned if they got any of the information wrong, but Jack couldn't deny it.
Jabot was protecting itself from Victor, something Adam was well aware of. He recalled the length of his friendship with Adam, and since it had been so long, Adam felt he should know that it wasn't personal. Jack couldn't pretend like it was business as usual. Jack was certain that it was nothing more than the latest in Victor's endless vendetta against him. He told Adam, "This was a stab in the back from a friend, and I will never forgive you for this."
The attack against Jabot impacted more than the Abbotts. Many employees faced unemployment during the holiday season. This went beyond the scope of their normal feuds. Jack wanted Newman Media to backtrack, and he thought they knew better. They were afraid of what Victor would do to him, so they wouldn't make any moves to fix it. Chelsea attempted to defend it, but she settled on telling him that it was Victor's company, so they had no choice.
Jack took shots at Adam and Chelsea's past, and he thought it made it clear which side they were on. Adam offered to give Jack a platform to speak his truth, but Jack told him to "Go to hell." He refused to give Victor the satisfaction of ever seeing him like that. After Jack left, Chelsea knew that his words had rattled Adam. They'd never seen Jack as irate as he was, but Adam didn't think that he had the right to throw shade in Chelsea's direction.
Chelsea didn't think it would have made a difference if they had given Jack a heads-up. Adam hated that his father dragged him into his feud with Jack. He felt terrible about what Victor put Jack through. Adam believed their hands were tied, but Chelsea did not think that was entirely true. If they were truly unbiased, they'd expose Victor's possession of the AI software. Jack was right. He was correct about everything, and they knew it.
Chelsea hated that they sat on the true story, and it wasn't fair. Adam thought exposing Victor's part in things would guarantee their jobs. He knew she hated doing what they did to Jack and the Abbotts. However, he couldn't always make decisions based on Chelsea's feelings. Even if he knew that Victor was wrong, they had to bite the bullet sometimes and do what he demanded of them.
Being nice wasn't always possible. She didn't accept that. They could've done more. She asked, "At what point have we gone too far, Adam, because I'm getting close to that point. Aren't you?" Chelsea took issue with the idea of being stuck under Victor's thumb forever. They were responsible for so many people losing their jobs, and she didn't want to be caught in the middle.
He asked if she would consider leaving Newman Media, but it didn't matter. They were pawns in Victor's game, and she thought they were better than that. She didn't want him to own their souls. She thought Adam had come too far to be bogged down by Victor's darker tendencies.
Phyllis left three voicemails for Victor, but she felt he was ignoring her. She came through for him, and now she needed him to return the favor. She turned around and ran directly into Billy, who assumed that Victor had reneged on his end of their deal. She wanted everyone to back off and stop accusing her of making secret deals with Victor. He was concerned that she'd end up like Audra, and he didn't want that for her. She was worth a lot more than that, and he thought she should've seen Victor's betrayal coming.
She attempted to storm off, but Billy went out of his way to stop her. He knew what it was like to be used by Victor. He wanted to offer her a deal. A deal that she could actually change her life, which he referred to as "generational wealth." She asked to hear his pitch, so he motioned for her to go to a table so they could speak privately. Billy knew she had stolen the program and handed it over to Cane. He didn't want her to deny it, though.
Billy overheard the end of her voicemail to Victor, so he knew that he wasn't following through on his plan. He wanted her to steal the program back from Victor. Still, she didn't hear a legitimate offer in any of that. He told her to name her price and called it the opportunity of a lifetime. She wouldn't admit to stealing anything, but she saw the value in removing it from Victor's clutches. She wondered why the Abbotts would do with the software, and he said they'd destroy it.
Phyllis needed some time to sit with it. He told her not to wait too long, but she knew that they needed her. If she didn't help them, she'd leave the battlezone entirely empty-handed. He walked away from the table, and Daniel approached, asking his mother if he even wanted to know what it was about. He felt like she was acting paranoid about whether he overheard anything between her and Billy. She called him snarky, but he was on to something.
Daniel was adamant that his mother was deeply immersed in whatever plight Jabot faced. She accused her son of hurting her, but he felt like that was bogus. He'd seen her in action too many times to ignore what was plainly presented in front of him. Daniel thought she had unresolved issues from being kidnapped and also the horrors that occurred in France. However, she relegated his concerns to threats. She promised that she didn't have any secrets hidden from him.
Phyllis asked for an update on Mariah because she had been gone from her wife and daughter for far too long. She revealed she saw him kissing Tessa after the wedding, and while she wasn't going to say anything, she had to speak up. Phyllis didn't think Tess was for him because she was technically off-limits. He understood that Tessa was married, but it was more complicated than that.
Daniel accused Phyllis of bringing about Mariah and Tessa's marriage to deflect from his previous line of questioning. He asked her if she stole Cane's AI software and sold it to Victor, and she asked who told him that. Nobody told him anything. He uncovered the truth on his own and came to the idea based on Phyllis and her actions. He and Summer needed her to figure out a way out of the mess she made for herself. She told him, "The circumstances are working out in my favor. Trust me. They are. I am going to win."
Kyle called Summer and thanked her for the large number of gifts she sent to Harrison for Christmas. He shifted the subject to the ongoing situation at Jabot. He wasn't certain how it would affect her company, but he felt as if things might be easier to work through if she returned to Genoa City. Diane agreed with the idea to get Summer involved. Her company was directly impacted by Victor's attack, so she had an incentive to come to their aid.
Diane was concerned there was no genuine shot at bringing Jabot back from the brink of collapse. Phyllis, being the person they enlisted as the saviour of their company, didn't sit well with her. Getting Summer involved would give Phyllis a bit more reason to side with Jabot. However, Diane couldn't go all in on any plan that involved such a wildcard like Phyllis.
Kyle thought Summer joining the fight would at least give Phyllis pause to consider their side. Diane thought his theory had a fatal flaw. Phyllis clearly got something from Victor in exchange for stealing the AI program, so she'd already been bought out. There's nothing they could offer her that she couldn't get from The Mustache. Diane didn't think Phyllis operated without the possibility that Summer could have been impacted from the beginning.
Diane thought Phyllis wanted more than money and power. She needed attention. She was smack in the middle of a blood feud between two of the most powerful companies. Diane knew Phyllis inside and out, and staying in the spotlight was the thing she craved most. Kyle realized she might refuse the offer, even if they offered her the moon. Diane suddenly had an a-ha moment and thought she uncovered a new way to take Victor down.
Billy returned to the Abbott house with an update on Phyllis. Kyle didn't think it mattered whether she got involved. Victor most likely already implemented safeguards to avoid someone else getting their hands on the program. Jack returned home as well and was ready to do whatever it took to save the family company. Diane knew where they could find proof that Victor used the program to illegally attack their company.
