What happened on The Young and the Restless

Danny and Christine discussed the final touches for their wedding. Almost everything was ready for their special day, with Christine’s dress left as the biggest hurdle. Lauren was helping her pick the perfect gown, even if it left Danny exhausted. The final thing on the agenda was their bachelor and bachelorette parties, which Danny’s son, Daniel, won’t be present for. They’re also slightly concerned that Daniel won’t make it to the wedding.
Phyllis overheard them discussing the wedding and lamented not being invited. She questioned why she was the last person to know. Danny said he wanted to tell her about the wedding in person, but he couldn’t get a hold of her. However, Christine snarked at Phyllis that she was lucky to get a heads-up at all.
Danny cited Phyllis’ recent involvement with Cane’s business dealings as the reason for the delayed reveal. Phyllis beamed about the state of her career, and Christine responded by saying, “The 137th time’s the charm.” Phyllis and Christine had a classic exchange, with the redhead joking that she wanted to throw rice at the wedding, but Christine informed her that it was a dated tradition and harmful to birds. “Does it kill bugs, too?” Phyllis quipped.
Christine wanted Phyllis as far away from the wedding as possible, but Phyllis wasn’t interested in attending. She didn’t understand why Danny would waste his time with Christine. Phyllis said she didn’t have any issues about not being invited, but the marriage wouldn’t last. Although Phyllis believed Christine was committed for the long haul, she didn’t think Danny was, and she felt he would get bored eventually.
Christine recalled that Phyllis had never maintained a lasting relationship with anyone and had spent most of her life alone. However, Phyllis claimed she stopped by their table as a gesture of good faith. She felt like Christine was still insecure with matters related to her, but she apologized for her actions. Phyllis couldn’t help but throw more insults at Christine’s direction, and she foreshadowed their relationship collapsing before they made it to the church.
Christina barked that Phyllis was too selfish to fully commit herself to anyone. Phyllis was sick at the mere thought of them actually getting married. Phyllis sat, disgusted, while Danny and Christine basked in the glow of every reason they fell in love. The spouses-to-be kissed in front of Phyllis, but she felt like it was all for show. She told them, "Maybe because you're trying so hard to convince me, or convince yourself, I don't know. It's just noise. Anyway, no one, least of all me, wants to watch this tired show, let alone stay for an encore."
Danny was proud of how Christine handled Phyllis in the moment, but it's clear that Cricket was rattled. Bringing up how Phyllis wedged between them in the past successfully put a sliver of doubt in Christine's mind. Danny assured Christine that he was more in love with her than ever, and their wedding would be amazing.
Tessa arrived at the clinic where Mariah was seeking treatment. Mariah was surprised to see Tessa there, but Tessa expressed how much she missed her wife. She thanked Mariah for agreeing to the visit, even if she believed Mariah would refuse.
Tessa remarked that it was the third time she’d visited, but Mariah had no-showed her first two attempts. She wondered why this time was different since Mariah wasn’t ready any of the other times. Mariah sat and stared at Tessa, and the silence was deafening.
Mariah hadn’t left the facility to make use of any of her outside time, something Tessa was confused about. She couldn’t make sense of how being locked up with no sunlight was helping Mariah through her problems. Tessa said Mariah didn’t have to speak if she didn’t want to, but she wouldn’t leave.
Tessa started playing cards with Mariah, and she again iterated that Mariah didn’t have to speak. She wanted them to spend time together and bond over their daughter’s favorite game. Mariah took Tessa up on the invitation to play, and she picked up her cards.
Mariah remarked that Daniel and Tessa sounded really good together, but Tessa urged Mariah to leave the facility in time to attend Danny and Christine’s wedding. Mariah didn’t think that would be possible. Tessa reminded Mariah that she was the strongest and bravest person she knew, and compared her to the Queen of Hearts. Her heart was broken watching Mariah wither away in that facility.
Tessa said even if Mariah didn’t like it, she was going to get her out of there and bring her home. Mariah wanted to remain, so she could dig deeper into what led her to check herself in. To get out of her state of depression, she had to put in the work. Mariah dug her heels into the sand and told Tessa she'd stay there until she saw it through.
Seeing Mariah and being left unable to help wasn't working for Tessa. After telling Mariah this, Tessa was told not to visit anymore. They shared a tearful embrace, and while Tessa felt comforted by the hug, Mariah remained stone-faced. After Mariah left, Tessa was alone with a stream of tears and ripped up the Queen of Hearts.
Sharon and Nick remained at Noah’s bedside and spoke to him, hoping for a miracle. Nick joked that a hospital was not on their list of things to do during a visit. Sharon’s nervousness peaked through her jokes about Noah being too busy to serve as a tour guide. Nick expressed the need for Noah to recover from his injuries.
Sharon reminded Noah that she and Nick weren’t going anywhere, although Sharon wasn’t certain if he could hear her. Victor called Nick for an update, alongside Nikki and Victoria. They filled them in on the extent of Noah’s injuries, and they spoke to Noah on speaker.
The doctor finally arrived, ready to provide the family with a much-needed update. The family heard the doctor enter, and Nick ended the call to speak to him. He wanted to talk to them outside, away from Noah’s bedside. The surgeon noted that Noah’s brain had swelled from the head trauma. The medical team placed Noah in a medically induced coma to reduce the swelling. Sharon broke down in tears as it served as another reminder of Cassie.
Nick comforted Sharon and told her it wasn’t a repeat of what happened to Cassie. Nick urged the doctor to ease Sharon’s fears, but he left it all on the table and led with facts. He couldn’t speak to their experience with Cassie, but if Noah were placed in a coma, it would be the best and safest option.
Despite Sharon’s insistence that they have Victor bring in a special, Nick didn’t think there was time to wait. After he calmed Sharon down, a nurse arrived with Noah’s personal belongings. However, after they recovered the watch they bought him for his graduation, both worried parents crumbled emotionally.
Back in Genoa City, the Newman family believed things were worse than they thought so far. Victo and Nikki wanted to jet off to Los Angeles to be with their son, but Victoria cautioned them against it.
Nick phoned his family to provide the latest update, and he confirmed the prognosis was not good. Victor inquired about the treatment plan, and Nikki wanted to rush to be by their side. Nick also pointed out how Victor needed to be there to fend off any potential attacks from Cane. He asked if his father could find the most suitable brain specialist. Victor was curious if Nick had a lack of confidence in the medical team that was actively treating Noah.
Nick comforted Nikki's concern by admitting he'd need her at some point. However, until there was more official news, there was no need to come out there. Victoria spoke from the heart, reminding her brother that they were all there for him and thinking of him during this difficult ordeal.
Victoria had a terrible feeling about Noah's fate. This left Nikki wanting someone from the family to be there as a representative. Victoria remembered that Claire was also in Los Angeles and shot her a text to be by her uncle's side. However, Nikki shared worry that they wouldn't be capable of managing another situation like Cassie's. She also asserted that she couldn't live through yet another death in the family.
While they took a stroll down memory lane about Noah's childhood, a detective (Matt Cohen's new character) arrived in the waiting room with questions about Noah's collision. He said he was investigating what happened, and Nick jumped straight to the point. He demanded to know if they suspected foul play.
The detective revealed that someone purposely ran Noah off the road and continued driving. This was not an accident. Someone intentionally and carelessly left Noah lifeless and fighting for survival.
