What happened on The Young and the Restless

Daniel and Mariah met at the park at night. He assured her that Tessa doesn’t know about their meeting. Daniel told Mariah he was the last person to ever judge anyone. He wanted to know how she was doing. Mariah said it was a loaded question right now. Daniel said that Tessa hadn’t shared many specifics with him about Mariah’s conflict.
“I’m a mess,” Mariah said with a half-chuckle. “Everyone’s sorry.” She didn’t like that everyone looked at her with a face that said, "Who is this crazy person?" Mariah lamented not having any answers. Daniel suggested opening up to Tessa about what’s going on would be a good first step. Mariah said that’d be too overwhelming for both of them.
Daniel told Mariah that Tessa’s heart was breaking. Mariah asked how Tessa was doing. Daniel slyly noted that Mariah could ask Tessa herself. Mariah said she couldn’t. Mariah said she needed Daniel to know she didn’t want things to be this way. She just wanted to know how Tessa and Aria were doing. Daniel said that they were doing okay, other than missing Mariah greatly.
Daniel asked Mariah why she reached out to him. Mariah said that Daniel might be the best friend Tessa has right now. Mariah noted there’s a bond between Daniel and Tessa. Daniel shared that Tessa was special. He said they talk, and Tessa is very respectful of Mariah.
“She should be screaming at me,” Mariah noted. Mariah added that she can’t tell Tessa why she left. She asked Daniel for a favor. “Please take care of my wife,” Mariah said. “Just look after her, and Aria. Make sure they’re both all right.”
Daniel asked if she was going anywhere and begged her not to do anything stupid. Mariah said her stepping back was the best solution for now. Daniel said Mariah trying to get help was a great first step. Mariah said Tessa wanted to fix things, but Mariah said nobody could fix what had gone wrong. Mariah said she needed to go away for a little while. That’s why she was asking Daniel for help. Mariah hoped to make it all up to Tessa someday. She was relieved that Daniel would look after Tessa. He told her she owed him nothing.
Daniel said he got a flash of Cassie. He wondered what advice Cassie would give her twin right now. Daniel revealed that it was weird for him to talk to Mariah, given her identical resemblance to Cassie. Mariah said she didn’t blame Daniel for the accident that took Cassie’s life. “But I’m here and she’s not,” Daniel replied.
Daniel said that Cassie would understand Mariah. He thought that Mariah should open up her heart to Tessa. Mariah said she’s not like Cassie because Cassie would not do the things that Mariah had done. Daniel asked her for specifics, but Mariah wouldn’t get too detailed. Daniel urged Mariah to heal during her time away. She hugged him, thanked him, and walked away.
Meanwhile, Diane and Jack recapped Sally’s predicament. Jack said he was feeling more anger than hurt that Billy threw away the opportunity that Jack gave him. Diane noted Billy has stars in his eyes and he’s not thinking straight. Diane wondered if Cane’s AI software was even real. She feared that if it were real, then Billy could go to jail for a long time.
Jack rhetorically asked if Victor would do nothing if Billy had a weapon against him. Jack theorized that Billy could use AI against anyone. Diane noted that that included Jabot Cosmetics. She wondered how far Billy would take things.
Jack feared that Billy would take the fall once the dust settled, and Cane would come out smelling like a rose. Diane urged Jack to talk to Billy. She was wrong to suggest the opposite earlier. Jack said Billy doesn’t listen to anyone. He’s into “bad gambler mode” right now. Diane said Jack will regret things if he doesn’t at least try to stop Billy.
Diane said she was more concerned about Jack than she was about Billy. Diane said one more talk between Jack and Billy could be helpful. Jack agreed to go, but he said he wasn’t going to go there alone.
Next, Victoria met with Jack at Society after she got his message. She told Jack that she and Claire have each other to lean on after Cole’s passing. Jack said this wasn’t about Claire and Kyle. He asked to meet her about Billy. He told Victoria he needed her help in talking to Billy. Jack explained the AI program. Off Victoria’s reaction, Jack asked if she knew about the AI program. Victoria deflected and didn’t reveal what she knew.
Billy paced around his living room, frantically. He wants this deal with Cane to happen. Billy assured himself that everything was fine. He was going to get Chancellor back, and he was going to get Abbott Communications up and running. Sally would be happy. Billy told himself he was going to the top!
Lily was impressed that Esther could rattle off her specific coffee drink at Crimson Lights. She wondered if she was predictable. Cane jumped in and finished reciting Lily’s other favorite drink. Lily remembered Cane buying cookies for Mattie and Charlie when they were little. Cane said Lily was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
Lily told Cane that the days of her falling for his lines are long gone. Cane asked Lily if she preferred he had not come back to Genoa City. She told him he wouldn’t like her answer. Cane asked about Charlie and Mattie. Lily said they had looked up to him. Cane conceded that he only had himself to blame.
Esther recalled Daniel’s drink and reminded him to pay for it on the way out. Lily agreed to join Cane, but only to set something straight. Lily said she wouldn't encourage or discourage Mattie and Charlie from talking to Cane. Cane shrugged that that was better than nothing. She asked him again, “Why are you here? And have you really given up your plans, or is this just another con?”
Lily told Cane he couldn’t have it both ways. She felt that Colin was still a presence in Cane’s life. Cane said that wasn’t a bad thing; in fact, it was a compliment if Lily thought Cane was like his father. Lily warned Cane that if he had one more secret that came out, then he would lose his family forever.
Lily said Mattie and Charlie feel that Cane loved Dumas more than he loved them. She accused him of not telling the truth. Lily said Mattie and Charlie will wonder who this ruthless man was. She added that the Cane she fell in love with does not exist. Cane asserted that he and Lily were meant to be together. He asked her if she felt the same way.
Lily said she and Cane would never get back together. Cane said that "never" was a long time. “The old Lily and Cane are gone,” Lily said. She mused that winning back Mattie and Charlie was an option. She suggested he could always go back to living in secret as Dumas. Lily walked out, leaving behind a frustrated Billy.
Billy greeted Jack and Victoria at his place, asking if this was an intervention. Jack claimed that they just wanted to talk. Jack said he had two letters to discuss with Billy – “A” and “I.” Billy surmised that Victor is worried about him if he sent his daughter over to talk to him. Jack said he approached Victoria. Billy wondered if Sally sold him out.
Jack pointed out that Sally told him Billy’s plan because she was worried about him. Victoria said that she was concerned, too. Jack wanted to know why Billy told Sally that Jack backed out of Abbott Communications. Billy asked why that mattered. He wanted to know if anyone was looking for an apology.
“I didn’t ask for you two to be here,” Billy blasted his brother and his ex. “And he’s back!” Victoria announced. She accused Billy of only thinking of himself and not caring how anyone else was affected. Billy shot back that Victor was trying to ruin his life.
Jack said he came here to talk Billy out of making a foolish move. Billy proclaimed he knew what he was doing. He was taking back a company that was stolen for him. Jack asked his younger brother if revenge was worth that much.
Victoria said if Billy won’t back down for Sally, then he could do it for the kids. She wanted to know how Johnny and Katie would feel once they found out what Billy was up to. Billy asked Jack why he brought his ex-wife into this.
Victoria yelled at her ex for gambling again. “You’ve got it bad,” she said. “I can see it.” She asked if he’d broken the law for Cane again. She wondered if Billy wanted to have Johnny and Katie visit their dad in prison again. Just then, Billy’s phone rang. Cane’s name came up on the caller ID.
Billy announced he was taking the call and that Jack and Victoria could see themselves out. After they left, Billy took the call. He asked Cane when he could get started. Cane said there’d been a change in plans. Billy asked what the problem was. Cane said Billy was. He brought too much conflict to the situation. Cane said that Billy was a wild card. Cane announced that their deal was off!
