The 46th Annual Creative Arts and Entertainment Daytime Emmy Awards, honoring excellence in technical achievement, were handed out on Friday, May 3, 2019.

The 46th Annual Creative Arts and Entertainment Daytime Emmy Awards were presented on Friday, May 3, at a gala held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California.

"Tonight's awards ceremony is an example of the extraordinary depth and breadth of Daytime television," said Terry O'Reilly, Chairman, NATAS. "It is with great pleasure that we honor these talented nominees and a special honor to be recognizing Jacques Pepin's culinary career with our Lifetime Achievement Award."

The Creative Arts portion of the Daytime Emmys honors excellence in mostly non-acting categories -- the behind-the-scenes technology that makes it possible for there to be episodes of the soaps: Outstanding Technical Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Makeup, Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design, and more. Awards are also handed out to non-soap programming, including categories likes Outstanding Writing in a Children's Series.

The Young and the Restless took home the most awards, earning five Emmys. Y&R's wins came for Outstanding Art Direction/Scenic Design, Lighting Direction, Live and Direct to Tape Sound Mixing, Costume Design, and Hairstyling.

As the number of digital series has increased, the Daytime Emmys have expanded the number of categories to honor those programs. In the past, the nominees and winners have been predominantly past and present soap performers. This year, however, that trend took a dramatic shift. The star-studded The Bay, which has swept nearly every category in the past several years, took home just a single award, opening the door for a bunch of new faces from relatively new series After Forever and Giants.

The Daytime Emmy Awards are presented to daytime television programs that are broadcast nationally between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The eligibility period for this year's Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards was January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2018.
