According to reports from inside All My Children, the show has fired one of its contract performers. Though the name of the performer isn't known, some details have been leaked. Here's what he know: the performer is a male and plays a character that is married. Additionally, the character is said to be one that fans greatly dislike.
Rattling off just the names of the married male characters, one soon sees that there are not many choices. Dimitri Marick (married to Alex), Joe Martin (married to Ruth), Tad Martin (married to Dixie), Stuart Chandler (married to Marian), Palmer Cortlandt (married to Vanessa), Mateo Santos (married to Hayley) and Jake Martin (married to Gillian). Among those, it is virtually assured that neither Michael Nader (Dimitri), David Canary (Adam and Stuart) nor Ray MacDonnell (Joe) have been let go. It's also a fairly good conclusion that Michael E Knight (Tad) is still with the show. That leaves just James Mitchell and J. Eddie Peck as potential chopping block candidates. The AMC Pages has learned that Mitchell has just recently extended his contract with the show - and Palmer remains a well-liked character in spite of his occasional grumpiness. Mark Consuelos (Mateo) has made airs of wanting to leave AMC and had at one time landed a part in a pilot for the FOX network. That planned series fell by the wayside and there's been nothing said since. Consuelos is married to Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and it might be awkward to split the on and off-screen pair. Mateo, while disliked by some, does remain fairly popular among viewers as a whole, so a firing would be quite surprising.
That leaves just one person - Peck.

Peck has not been very well received as the new Jake Martin. Fans quickly grew tired of the character because of his interference in Gillian and Ryan's relationship. A lot of viewers had soured on the character even before Peck came aboard.
If Peck has been let go, the writers have an easy out. Jake had already promised Gillian a quickie divorce. After the way Jake jumped to the conclusion that Ryan had "poisoned" his guests with Libidozone, it may be only natural that Jake will want to scamper out of Pine Valley with his tail between his legs.
