Blue Lock chapter 309, officially scheduled for release on July 2, 2025, is a major turning point in the series on the path towards the U-20 World Cup. It showcases the much-awaited reunion of the remaining players of Project Blue Lock, who meet up after a two-week break during which they complete specific tasks assigned by Ego.
The chapter’s main highlight, however, is its focus on Seishiro Nagi, who continues to struggle with manifesting his egoism and understanding what he truly desires after his elimination. However, the surprising return of a highly controversial character also hints at the lazy prodigy’s return for the final camp.
In Blue Lock chapter 308, Nagi had been offered a chance to play for Japan’s U-20 team by joining a special squad assembled by Hirotoshi Buratsuta. However, not wishing to sell his soul, he declined the offer. The chapter also revealed that France, England, and Nigeria would be in Japan’s group for the World Cup and that Sae Itoshi would only play in the match against Spain.

Blue Lock chapter 309 features the main cast’s reunion and hints at Nagi’s next step
Chapter 309, titled Reunion, officially kicks off the main cast’s preparation to enter the “group of death” in the U-20 World Cup. Having returned from his trip abroad, Isagi was determined to become the best in the world. He parted with his parents and left for the Blue Lock facility with strengthened resolve.
On his way, Isagi was greeted by Bachira and Rin. The three shared friendly banter, comparing their heights, before entering the facility, where all other participants were already present. Jinpachi Ego then appeared in front of the crowd, congratulating them for their efforts over the past 14 days.
He informed each player that they had their own weapons now, but urged them to throw away weak thoughts such as "how they had made it so far" or "playing for the sake of Blue Lock". Instead, Ego declared that he was using the players for his own dreams and encouraged them to use him, too.
He reminded them that they were carrying Japan’s football hopes, but warned that it should not become the peak of their careers or a fond memory in the future. Ego then announced that Japan's first match would be against Nigeria, followed by France, and then England. To ensure the 23 players went beyond their egos, he unveiled the start of a new training program.
Meanwhile, Nagi continued playing games at the arcade, thinking back on his conversation with Buratsuta. Though he initially did not wish to become a villain for football, the lazy genius continued wondering whether he should have betrayed Blue Lock to pursue his passion.
He recalled Isagi telling him not to stop playing the sport, as well as his classmates’ question of whether he would play professionally. While Nagi tried convincing himself that he had other options, he remained unsure of what would get him fired up again.
The chapter ends with Nagi wondering whether his ego is shouting out for football or for Blue Lock, after which he is unexpectedly approached by Igaguri, who points a finger gun at him.
Blue Lock chapter 309 brief analysis
While Blue Lock chapter 309 has revealed that Japan will play Nigeria first and has begun a new training program for the main cast to polish their skills, the spotlight ultimately falls on Nagi, who continues to face internal turmoil.
However, in the final pages of the chapter, the fire seemingly returns to Nagi’s eyes as he begins thinking about what to prioritize to reclaim his ego. His encounter with Igaguri is also immensely significant, as the boy is a monk-in-training who would do anything to avoid returning to his old life.

Igaguri committed various villainous acts in Blue Lock to avoid elimination, and while he failed in the Neo Egoist League, his reintroduction suggests that he may take part in Buratsuta’s special selection test to join the Japanese team.
Talking with Igaguri may be the final push Nagi requires to accept Buratsuta’s offer and stop caring about Project Blue Lock, choosing to carve his own path to the final camp even if it means taking a more villainous route.
