Over recent weeks, one of the biggest questions asked by fans of mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man series has been who Fakesaw Man is. Although their identity has yet to be fully explained, Chapter 204 has confirmed them to have been the Fire Devil’s true host. Likewise, many are asserting that Fakesaw Man’s true identity has been Seigi Akoku all along.

A major reason for this is the evidence that already existed for Akoku being the Fire Devil’s host. For starters, Chapter 111 saw Yuko warn Asa Mitaka that the Justice Devil was at their school. Since it’s later revealed that the Fire Devil was using the Justice Devil’s name to hide itself, this effectively confirms that the Fire Devil’s host was a student.

Obviously, Akoku fits the bill here as someone who went to the same school as Yuko and Asa. There is also his association with the Chainsaw Man Church, who effectively tricked and forced teenagers into making contracts with the Fire Devil. This may be how the Fire Devil discovered Seigi and decided to make him her formal host.

However, the single biggest piece of evidence for Seigi being the Fire Devil theory following Chapter 204’s events remains how referential he is. More specifically, many aspects of his character are a reference to Fujimoto’s previous work called Fire Punch. Given this, he is undoubtedly the strongest candidate, especially with chapter 204 confirming the host as male.

Fire Punch references in Seigi’s character make him Chainsaw Man’s strongest choice for Fire Devil host

Before his flagship Chainsaw Man series, Fujimoto had a serialized manga called Fire Punch published on Shueisha’s digital Shonen Jump+ platform. The series’ protagonist is Agni, referred to in-series with the titular Fire Punch moniker due to being constantly aflame. Coincidentally, or rather not so, Seigi’s character design is similar to Agni’s.

An especially similar aspect in the two characters’ designs is their right eyes. Seigi wears an eyepatch over his right eye after being injured there. Agni’s right eye (and the area of his head surrounding it) is also the only part of his face that is lit aflame. This is unlikely to be a coincidence, with Fujimoto likely leaving another clue here for Seigi’s true identity.

Moreover, his last name “Akoku” can be read as “Aguni” in Japanese, which is strikingly similar to Agni’s name. Seigi’s first name can also be read as “justice” in Japanese, and he is also first introduced in Chainsaw Man’s Justice Devil Arc. In other words, both his first and last names are overt references to the Fire Devil, whether directly or not.

All of this evidence, combined with the fact that chapter 204 confirms the Fire Devil’s host to be male, strongly suggests Seiki to be their host. However, there is also an argument for Fujimoto using him as a red herring, especially with the over Fire Punch references. While little evidence suggests debunking this idea, there is equally little evidence to debunk the theory itself.

Final thoughts

While Seigi Akoku does seem to be one of the strongest candidates for the Fire Devil’s host, this has yet to be officially confirmed in Chainsaw Man. However, there are no other characters with a stronger argument for this role behind them. With this in mind, it seems likely that chapter 204 has all but revealed Seigi as the Fire Devil’s host, with chapter 205 likely to officially confirm this.
