Does Sasuke get his Rinnegan back in Boruto?

It was during the Fourth Great Ninja War in Naruto that Sasuke awakened the legendary Rinnegan. Although in Boruto, this legendary dojutsu is violently taken from him. Initially, fans loved this legendary moment when he had awakened a new power because it changed the trajectory of the story. The Rinnegan elevated Sasuke into god-tier status, alongside Naruto, to combat world-ending threats. Fans have been wondering if Sasuke ever gets his Rinnegan back?

No, Sasuke does not get his Rinnegan. As of chapter 22 of the Two Blue Vortex manga, there has been no mention of him getting back his lost powers. Before we understand and know more about the incident that led him to lose his powers, it is important to know what caused it to be awakened in the first place

It was during the Fourth Great Ninja War, Sasuke lay critically injured after fighting Madara Uchiha. In that period, he met with Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths. He their determination and desire to save the world, Hagoromo bestows upon them a portion of his power. Naruto receives Six Paths Sage Mode, and Sasuke is granted the Rinnegan in his left eye.

He lost his Rinnegan from an unexpected attack by Boruto. During that period, Momoshiki Otsutsuki had taken control of Boruto’s body using his Karma seal. And he took advantage of the fact that Naruto and Sasuke were both physically and spiritually exhausted after fighting against Isshiki Otsutsuki.

To win against Isshiki, Naruto used his Baryon Mode. It significantly powered up, but the downside to it was that it could potentially kill him. While Sasuke had used his Rinnegan and his other abilities, including his space-time ninjutsu, both of them worked as a team. Finally, after depleting all of their energy, they managed to defeat Isshiki, which is why no one expected a surprise attack from within their own team.

Momoshiki had seized control of Boruto’s body in a moment when everyone's guard was down. He made his move fast so that no one had time to react and took this opportunity to stab Sasuke’s Rinnegan directly with a kunai. With this, his Rinnegan was permanently destroyed.

Sasuke continues to be a mentor figure to Naruto's son, especially after Kawaki’s betrayal and the shift in timelines caused by Eida’s Omnipotence ability. In the current manga, Sasuke has gone off the grid, as he was turned into a tree. This happened because he chose to protect him, believing in the boy even when the entire world turned against him.

In the manga, Sasuke has been missing throughout the action. After Eida subconsciously activated her Omnipotence, which rewrote the memories of everyone. Currently, everyone believes that Kawaki was Naruto’s biological son and Boruto was the villain who killed him.

Sasuke was the only one who helped him out because his daughter asked him to believe in Boruto’s innocence. In a powerful moment of trust, Sasuke leaves Konoha with Boruto, mentoring him in secret. Again, there was no mention of or indication towards him getting his Rinnegan back.

However, later in the manga, Sasuke is turned into a tree by the Divine Tree variant clones, specifically by a monstrous clone of Shinju. This tragic turn of events adds another layer of tension for the protagonists, especially Sarada.

Finally, not only has Sasuke lost his Rinnegan, but he is also currently out of commission in the story. Despite being sidelined, Sasuke’s influence remains central. Sarada’s ambition to become Hokage and Boruto’s will to fight against fate are both inspired by Sasuke’s courage and choices.
