Dragon Ball has many characters beyond just Goku and Vegeta. One of the lesser-known characters is Jaco. He’s not a fighter like the Saiyans, but he plays a key role in the story. Jaco is a Galactic Patrolman, which is a kind of space cop.

Dragon Ball often mixes comedy with action, and Jaco fits right into that mix. He’s serious about his job but often ends up in funny situations. When he felt disappointed in humans, he threatened to use an Extinction Bomb to wipe them out. Despite being somewhat strong, Jaco is a coward at times. But it’s only when he is against some of the mightiest fighters the universe has seen.

But while he is a coward, there are also moments of him being brave, like when he spoke out against Moro, while he knew Moro was stronger than him. It is what makes his character endearing and a little familiar to viewers. Like most aliens in the show, Jaco lacks social skills.

Dragon Ball needed a character like Jaco to explore space law and order. Before him, the series focused mostly on martial arts and gods. Jaco brings in a more sci-fi angle, showing that there’s a system of rules in the universe. This makes the world of Dragon Ball feel bigger and more detailed. Through Jaco, fans learn more about how the Galactic Patrol works and how threats from space are handled before they reach Earth.

Jaco appeared in many of the sagas, but he had a more prominent role in the Dragon Ball Super Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. He was the one who requested Goku and Vegeta’s assistance with capturing Moro, a dangerous escapee. This arc was good for Jaco and showed that while he might not be all that strong, he doesn’t need to be.

Dragon Ball showed that Jaco is more than comic relief in this arc. His actions helped start one of the most important storylines in Super. It was because of Jaco’s actions that the Earth got two extra months of existence, as opposed to the 20 days mentioned by Shimorekka. Even when he was scared, he stayed on the job and gave his support. That kind of loyalty is rare in side characters, and it made fans appreciate him more.

Vegeta and Beerus are two characters who are usually serious. Jaco comes into the picture and adds more fun to the show. He’s not afraid to complain or show fear, which makes him easy to relate to. He responds to large threats similarly to how regular folks might. That human touch helps balance out the godlike power of the main cast.

Dragon Ball: Jaco the Galactic Patrolman

He first shows up in Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, a short story where he’s the main character. His next appearance was in Dragon Ball Super episode 20 during the Golden Frieza Saga. He helped the main cast deal with big problems across the universe.

Fans may not know that Jaco was created before Dragon Ball Super even started. His original manga is actually a “pre-sequel” to the series. Jaco came to Earth to stop a Saiyan coming from Planet Vegeta. In the final chapter, it is revealed that the Saiyan he was looking for was Goku.

But during his time on Earth, he met Omori, a scientist who lives on an island. He also met Bulma’s older sister, Tights. The trio had an interesting story, which caused a strong bond to form among them. It was mostly Jaco saving and helping them. Like the time he defeated the shark that was terrorizing Omori’s island. Or when he defeated the muggers who were attacking Tights.

Conclusion

Jaco may not be the strongest, but his part in the story increases over time. He adds new ideas and fresh humor and helps tie together different arcs.

Jaco plays an important role in the Dragon Ball world, whether he’s giving warnings or making jokes. He shows that a hero doesn’t need to fight to be important.
