As the Elbaph Arc of mangaka Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece series has progressed, it has clearly made the Holy Knights its antagonists. Recent chapters and months have had this clear beyond any doubt, seeing them take Elbaph’s children hostage to achieve their goals. In that process, fans have also seemingly learned that King Harald wasn’t the traitor fans once thought he was.
A major piece of evidence supporting this is the Holy Knights’ claim that Harald agreed to make Elbaph’s Giants the World Government’s mercenaries. The Holy Knights’ anger and confusion at seeing the schools and libraries suggests Harald betrayed them, not Elbaph. This seems especially true since he was chiefly responsible for their construction and implementation.

Likewise, recent One Piece chapters have seen the Holy Knights demand that Elbaph’s Giants burn down these buildings and swear their loyalty. While one would assume the Giants would want to respect Harald’s legacy and fight them, their current leader quickly gives in. Giving in is Elder Jarul, current leader of Elbaph and one of two people present at Harald’s murder by Loki.
While it can be argued Jarul gives in immediately due to his descendant being held hostage, this clashes with the Elbaph Giants’ warrior mentality. Jarul being from a generation long before Harald’s advocacy for peace and education further casts doubt on his decision. All of the above info combines to suggest that a true traitor is leading Elbaph through this dark time.
Elder Jarul may be planning to sell out Elbaph to One Piece’s Holy Knights and World Government
In One Piece’s Elbaph Arc, it’s explicitly stated that Loki and Elder Jarul were the only two present at the time of King Harald’s death. The story fans have been told thus far is that Loki attacked Jarul before getting past him and killing Harald. However, since being told this, plenty of significant evidence has come forth to suggest a deeper truth to these events.
It’s also worth noting that, as mentioned above, Jarul is from a very old generation of Elbaph Giants. He was likewise raised to be a warrior and give no thought to being anything else. Likewise, he has been seen expressing disagreement with Harald’s new-age policies at worst throughout the Elbaph Arc so far.

Given his behavior in the latest One Piece spoilers, it seems likely that Jarul disagreed with how Harald handled the World Government situation. More likely than not, Loki attacked and tried to kill Jarul due to him wanting to truly work with the World Government. This would especially make sense if Harald was killed by the Holy Knights for betraying the World Government.
The fact that Jarul is the only trusted survivor of Loki’s alleged attack on and murder of King Harald further suggests this. Jarul could have manipulated the truth as far as he wanted, and is the obvious choice for Elbaph’s leader given his age, wisdom, and experience. With all of this in mind, his intent may be to truly cooperate with the World Government unlike Loki and Harald.
Final thoughts
However, the above is still speculative and only based on the latest information from a still developing plotline. Jarul quickly giving in to the Holy Knights’ demands could likewise be out of love for his descendant. That being said, the additional circumstances of his character and the shady context of Harald’s death and his survival of Loki’s attack suggest a deeper, hidden truth.
