In the world of One Piece, Haki plays a major role in shaping high-stakes battles. Under Haki, there are three forms: Conqueror’s Haki, Armament Haki, and Observation Haki. While Observation Haki is capable of immensely heightening the senses of users, it was still considered the weakest for a long time.

However, this perception changed when an advanced technique of Observation Haki, called Future Vision, was introduced. Future Vision, or Future Sight, is a rare ability allowing individuals to glimpse into the future.

While Observation Haki typically relies on reading the emotions and intent of others to make accurate predictions, Future Vision lets one look a few seconds ahead in time itself. So far, only four characters in the series have been capable of using Future Vision.

The first notable display of this broken skill came from Charlotte Katakuri. As Big Mom’s strongest commander, Katakuri could comfortably look at scenes that would take place in the future and act ahead of time to diffuse threats. He had used this to keep his family safe from danger and even overpowered Luffy for a long period by easily tackling his attacks.

Being first person to use it on screen, the manner in which Katakuri utilized Future Vision also let fans know about the various rules surrounding it. As a part of Observation Haki, it is essential to be calm and focused when using this skill. Additionally, Future Vision only lets users peek ahead into their current future and form their own interpretation.

Therefore, the actual outcome may be different from what the wielder of the power sees. Their interference can also alter the future, rendering the earlier vision meaningless. Despite these limitations, Future Vision remains an incredibly powerful ability used by the most formidable characters in the series.

After Katakuri, the second person to display this ability was none other than the protagonist, Luffy. To face Katakuri’s ability to see the future, Luffy, who had been taught Haki by Rayleigh, gradually adapted to the antagonist’s attacks to counter him. This progression evolved from simple observation into seeing the future itself, allowing Luffy to defeat Katakuri in their battle.

Luffy is also the only person in One Piece who is revealed to have trained and learned Future Vision through his efforts. However, he is yet to perfect it to Katakuri’s level and can be beaten when facing rapid attacks.

After Luffy, Kaido displayed Future Vision during the Wano Arc during his battle against the protagonist. He used this to counter Luffy’s Gear 2 and Gear 4 attacks, proving how he had achieved his position as the strongest creature.

Finally, the latest confirmed user of Future Vision in One Piece is the captain of the Red Hair Pirates, Shanks. Most fans believe that Shanks is the strongest user of this ability since he does not possess a Devil Fruit and became an Emperor just through his mastery over Haki.

When Eustass Kid was aiming to destroy the ships of Shanks' allies using his Damned Punk, the red-haired pirate could see the impact of his attack in the future. As a result, Shanks jumped into action, brutally defeating the Kid Pirates. Shanks is also the only user of the Conqueror’s Haki ability, Observation Killing. This can negate Future Vision.

One Piece characters speculated to have Future Vision

The four One Piece characters mentioned above are the only ones confirmed to be capable of using Future Vision. However, there are two more who have shown signs of using a more advanced form of Observation Haki, and both showcased this during the recent Elbaph Arc.

The first among these is the Accursed Prince of Elbaph, Loki. Having been imprisoned in the Underworld with blindfolds on his eyes, Loki was able to quickly dodge Luffy’s Gear 4 attack and even analyze the God’s Knights’ offensive maneuvers.

Secondly, the Left Hand of the Pirate King, Scopper Gaban, also showed signs of being able to see the future. When facing Luffy and Zoro, he had angered the duo enough for them to get serious. As Gear 5 Luffy and Zoro, seemingly prepared to use Conqueror’s Haki, approached him, Gaban had a noticeable glint in his eye, after which he surrendered.

Due to this, fans theorize that Gaban merely taunted the protagonist to glimpse the future outcome of a battle against his Nika form. Satisfied with the results, he had no reason to fight any longer. Therefore, while it has yet to be confirmed whether either Loki or Gaban can use Future Vision, both are powerful and deserving enough to be considered its newest users in One Piece.
