In Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto, there are a few characters who stand out despite not being part of the main cast. Omoi is such a character who had the privilege to be trained under Killer Bee. He has occasionally stolen the spotlight with his unique personality, impressive sword skills, and moments of unexpected emotional depth.

Although after the show reached its finale, fans wondered what happened to Omoi in Naruto. After the war, Omoi largely fades into the background of the Naruto universe, but he does make a return in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. He eventually becomes a Jonin and serves as a high-ranking figure in the Hidden Cloud.

Omoi is a shinobi from Kumogakure (the Hidden Cloud Village), introduced during the Five Kage Summit Arc. He was a member of Team Samui, trained under Killer B, the Eight-Tails Jinchūriki, and master of unorthodox swordplay. His teammates were Karui, a hot-headed and impulsive kunoichi, and Samui, the calm, reserved team captain.

Omoi gets the most screen time during the Fourth Great Ninja War, especially compared to his teammates. That’s not a coincidence. Naruto often sidelines characters who are not part of the main cast or quiet captains like Samui, but Omoi gets several chances to shine.

The going off-mission

One of Omoi’s most heroic (and controversial) moments is when he abandons his post to go rescue a group of kids in danger. This side story shows both the flaws and virtues of Omoi’s character.

During this mission, he’s joined by a Naruto shadow clone, which provides critical support. Unfortunately, Omoi accidentally slashes the clone in the back, eliminating one of his greatest assets in the fight. Classic Omoi—caught in the moment, making a blunder.

Yet, he adapts. He uses clever tactics, such as:

  • Using lightning-style attacks to clear large groups of enemies.
  • Diving into a lake to escape poison.
  • Breathing through the air expelled by a sea creature
  • Working with the children themselves to form a coordinated counterattack.

Ultimately, Omoi saves the children, proving his instincts were right. He emerges from the arc more confident, more grounded, and seen by the audience as more than comic relief. He’s a shinobi willing to risk everything for what’s right.

The student beneath the swordsman

Omoi is most relaxed and unfiltered when he’s with Killer Bee. Their dynamic is an understated but touching one. He respects Bee deeply, and their bond reveals a different side of Omoi, who is less anxious, more confident, and more playful. In those moments, we remember he’s not just a soldier, he’s someone’s student.

Additionally, in Naruto, his relationship with Karui is also worth noting. While she’s brash and loud, Omoi is contemplative and restrained. That is why the duo balances each other well, and their teamwork during missions reflects years of trust.

While Karui may dominate the conversation, Omoi is always thinking five steps ahead and sometimes too many, but his intentions are always grounded in logic and care.

Omoi is a strong and skilled ninja from the Hidden Cloud. He was chosen by the Fourth Raikage for special missions and later became a Jonin and bodyguard to the Fifth Raikage—proof of how much his village trusts him.

As he is trained by Killer Bee, Omoi is great with a sword. He uses a style called Cloud-Style Crescent Moon Beheading, allowing him to block attacks and strike quickly, even from behind. His sword skills are sharp enough to impress powerful enemies, and he often uses clever tricks like shadow clones or fake-outs to gain the upper hand in battle.

He can also use Lightning Release, charging his sword with electricity to make it more powerful. In the anime, he’s also seen firing strong lightning bolts, especially effective when combined with water.

Final thoughts

It’s unclear if Omoi will return again in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. He’s alive, and his injuries from Deepa’s attack weren’t fatal. If anything, it would be great to see him return as a mentor figure, especially to characters like Metal Lee or other up-and-coming shinobi who deal with self-doubt.

Given his background under Killer B and his experience in both wars and post-war missions, Omoi is a valuable character waiting for a new spotlight. Whether he gets that remains to be seen, but for now, he remains one of Naruto’s more underappreciated gems.
