What happened on The Bold and the Beautiful

Hope and Steffy continued sitting vigil by Liam's side when a nurse arrived to check on him. The nurse told them she believed that Liam could hear them, so they should keep talking to him. "He knows we're here. We have to believe that," Steffy said.
"But he shouldn't even be here," Hope pointed out. "Liam wouldn't have even been shot by Luna if Bill hadn't gotten her pardoned," Steffy lamented.
Bridget was the next person to check in on Liam. She asked Hope and Steffy if they had told Kelly or Beth what had happened, but Steffy said they didn't want to scare them. Grace soon arrived and asked Hope and Steffy to leave so she could examine Liam herself.
Bill asked Ridge and Taylor where Liam was, as if they had some say in whether he got to see his own son. Bill admitted that getting Luna out of prison was a bonehead move. "I will regret it for the rest of my life. I just pray losing Liam is not going to be my punishment," Bill said.
Ridge argued that Bill shouldn't get to see his son, so Bill argued back, again, as if Ridge had any say in this whatsoever. Bill didn't want Liam to be alone, so Taylor noted that Hope and Steffy were with them. Bill walked off to see Liam, so Ridge followed him to stop him.
Ridge chased Bill into an empty room and shoved him. "Liam's fighting for his life because of what you did. Are you sorry you made a mistake? Then act like it. For once in your life, do the right thing for your son," Ridge demanded. "My daughter almost died today because of you. Because of what you did."
Ridge told Bill that Liam was also a part of his family. "If Steffy loses him. If my granddaughter loses her Daddy, I swear to God, I am going to rip you to shreds," Ridge warned. He accused Bill of being selfish and told him he would end up alone.
"I thought I had a read on the situation. I thought Luna and I had an understanding," a perplexed Bill muttered. "There is no excuse for what I've done."
While Taylor stayed put in the waiting area, Brooke suddenly appeared out of nowhere and asked Taylor what had happened. "Luna happened," Taylor told a confused Brooke. Taylor relayed the sequence of events at the beach house art school, shocking Brooke.
Hope and Steffy reappeared just in time for Bill and Ridge to show up. Hope immediately began laying into Bill for having Luna pardoned. "You are one of the reasons he is lying in that hospital bed, Bill. You and your sick obsession with Luna," Hope shouted.
Hope also ordered Bill to leave, but he refused. So, Hope went on and said something she shouldn't have. "Are you trying to gain our sympathy? Quite frankly, really don't think you deserve it. Especially not from Liam, not when he's dealing with a brain tumor..."
Hope quickly stopped herself as Bill and Brooke looked more confused than ever. "What?" Bill asked. Hope told the truth, as she had been begging Liam to do. "Liam has been struggling with cancer this entire time," Hope said.
"Liam didn't want to tell you because you have zero compassion, Bill," Steffy sniped. Bill was in a state of disbelief. "Even if he survives this, the tumor is inoperable," Hope said.
A hysterical Bill insisted he would do anything in his power to save Liam, while Steffy chastised him and called him a "selfish, arrogant fool." A tearful Bill insisted that Liam wasn't going to die.
Just then, Finn and Bridget appeared with good news. Liam was starting to respond. Hope and Steffy quickly ran to his room and begged him to wake. Liam suddenly started to open his eyes, much to everyone's delight.
Sheila absorbed the information that Luna was dead, while Finn tried to explain what happened. "Bridget and my mother did everything they could, but Luna died in recovery," he said. He advised Sheila to focus on her own recovery, reminding her that her injuries could have been a lot worse.
Li walked in and asked to speak with Finn in private. Once alone, Deacon told his wife how sorry he was. He knew she felt a special affection for Luna. "I know she hurt people that I loved. She hurt you. I tried. She just wouldn't listen, and now she's gone. I feel like a little piece of me died with her," Sheila cried.
Sheila said she truly believed that Luna could turn her life around, but Deacon insisted that was not where she was headed. "She would have killed Steffy if it weren't for you. You saved her, and I'm so proud of you for defending her," Deacon said.
In another empty room, Li asked Finn to be honest with her about Luna. "How do you really feel about your daughter's death?" she asked. "You're my son, and I love you more than anything in this world. You are my son, and you don't have to pretend this isn't complicated."
"I'm just trying to process all of it. Her life was...wasted. It was so full of unhappiness and trauma. She was my kid. My kid grew up with that kind of pain. How could I not feel something?" Finn asked.
"And Liam? He is fighting for his life and was shot. All because of my daughter," Finn added, just before Chief Baker walked in. He told them if Luna survived, she'd be heading back to prison. Finn told him that Luna was dead.
