Introduced in the late 1990s, EJ DiMera from Days of Our Lives is one of the most popular characters now. Over the years, several actors have portrayed the role, such as James Scott and now Dan Feuerriegel.

EJ is the son of Stefano and Susan Banks and was first introduced as an adult character in 2006 as Sami Brady’s neighbor. Over the years, he has terrified numerous characters in Salem for his father, Stefano. However, while engaging in notorious activities such as shooting and kidnapping, EJ also displayed humane characteristics when it came to his loved ones.

10) EJ meets Sami for the first time (May 2006)

Sami and Austin were engaged in 2006 on Days of Our Lives. EJ came to Salem and was their neighbor, who lived across from them. He first meets Austin and only sees Sami’s picture, and is already smitten by her. Later, he meets Sami when she approaches his room to get the wrench that the neighbor had borrowed to fix their problem in the bathroom, and stumbles upon EJ wearing a towel, making it one of the most memorable meetings across daily soaps.

9) Lucas and Sami help EJ (August 2007)

Andre was causing havoc in Salem in Days of Our Lives, with everyone trying to find him. Lucas and Sami finally found him in the health club, but he had the upper hand and knocked Lucas out and tied him up in the car.

EJ then came to Sami, who told him about Andre being back and Lucas missing, but before they could act on it, Andre shoved them both into the gym’s sauna and increased the temperature. EJ, while trying to escape, got electrocuted, and Sami had to perform CPR to revive him. However, it was hard for her to perform, so Lucas took over, which then revived EJ, giving the viewers some entertaining and dramatic moments with a confused EJ.

8) EJ shoots John (December 2006)

EJ was brought to Salem to complete some of Stefano’s dirty work in Days of Our Lives. Stefano’s rivalry with Marlena and John had already brewed up, and EJ came to help his father get rid of one of his enemies.

While Bo was with Hope during her delivery, John confronted EJ alone and was shot by him, beginning the villainous phase of EJ in Salem.

7) EJ Records Nicole’s Confession (October 2012)

EJ’s rivalry with Rafe due to him trying to lure the women he loves, such as Nicole and Sami, is one of the popular storylines in Days of Our Lives. In 2012, Sami and Rafe’s relationship affected EJ so much that he even got into a fight with them. When nothing separated them, he got Nicole to confess that the baby she was carrying was not Rafe’s but hers and EJ’s.

Later, he confronts Rafe by playing this recording in front of Sami as well, resulting in Sami breaking up with Rafe, just what EJ wanted.

6) EJ and Sami reunite with their daughter (June-October, 2009)

Earlier in 2009, in Days of Our Lives, EJ was devastated to find out about his daughter, Grace’s death, which left him angry. He was angry at everyone, including Sami, who tried to hide that Grace was his daughter and not Rafe’s. However, he was later told by Rafe, after he saved his life from Stefano’s men, that Grace was actually not their daughter; she was Sydney's. Nicole had switched the babies.

Finding Sydney made their fights come to a halt between Sami and EJ, and he even cut ties with his father after finding out he helped Nicole in switching the babies.

5) Will Tries to Blackmail EJ (January, 2012)

Since he is a DiMera and has grown up watching his father’s criminal activities, it was difficult to win over EJ, as he always had the last say in Days of Our Lives. For instance, Sami’s son, Will, tried to blackmail EJ with the information about his mother and EJ spending the night together to destroy their relationship and demanded that he let him escape from there to keep his mouth shut.

However, EJ still got him by revealing that it was he who had shot him during his wedding with Sami and not his father, Lucas, which forced him to agree to whatever EJ wanted him to do as EJ had more information than him. However, he liked working for EJ as he was getting paid and was also given a race car by him.

4) EJ and Sami get married (November 9, 2007)

EJ and Sami’s first wedding had a lot of tragedies in Days of Our Lives. After John Black was killed in a hit-and-run accident, Sami was the last straw that could end the rivalry between the families if she married EJ. To avoid more harm and deaths to her family, Sami agreed to marry EJ and, in protest, wore black.

However, EJ accepted it as he told her that black also represents devotion. The wedding is one of the most memorable weddings in Days of Our Lives due to the intense drama depicted in it.

3) EJ promised to become a better person (November 2007-2008)

After Lucas was arrested for shooting EJ during the wedding in Days of Our Lives, EJ promised to become a better person and raise the twins. Sami’s mother, Marlena, also gave him a chance to attempt to be a good human being.

To redeem himself, he first remembered that John Black had been locked in the basement and brainwashed by his father; therefore, he decides to bring John back to his family and also hide him and Sami, and his family from Stefano harming them. This was one of the many instances where EJ turned a good character, and it is an unforgettable storyline for fans.

2) EJ apologizes to Sami (June 2021)

EJ and Sami’s relationship was not an easy one, and they had to go through numerous struggles, which also meant them being separated several times in Days of Our Lives. But they always tried to come back together by admitting to their faults or eliminating the threat in their reunion.

In June 2021, EJ returned to Salem to apologize to Sami for not being there when she was arrested for Charlie’s murder, but was relieved that Lucas was with her. He promised Sami that now that he is back, he would take care of Xander, and she did not need to worry, and asked her to move back with him to their mansion.

After his reunion with his brother, Tony and Chad, the DiMeras are now set to take back the business, which was being run by Jake. EJ’s comeback storyline will always be unforgettable in the daily soap.

1) EJ tries to mend his relationship with Johnny (2025)

EJ had a complicated relationship with his father, Stefano, in Days of Our Lives, which was frustrating for him as he wanted to be a better father than his father was. Johnny and EJ also had a complex relationship, which was destroyed further after Kate revealed to him that EJ had assaulted Sami, resulting in his birth. This truth made Johnny hate his father.

The relationship was ruined further when all of his crimes were published in the Spectator, which made Amy Choi back out of the adoption process, and Johnny and Chanel are left devastated. All of his crimes came back to him at once and severed his relationship with his son, and also impacted his life. However, EJ did not give up and wanted to fix everything, from the adoption to his relationship with his son, until he was shot, making it one of the most compelling storylines involving EJ DiMera.
