Days of our Lives Performers of the Week: Lauren Koslow as Kate Roberts, and Leann Hunley as Anna DiMera

There are some staples on Days of our Lives that viewers can't get enough of seeing. Topping the list are showdowns between two divas at the top of their game. Case in point: Lauren Koslow's Kate and Leann Hunley's Anna had a confrontation this week, which has earned the two women Soap Central's Performers of the Week honors.

The must-see scenes kicked off with Kate informing Anna that she needed to speak to Tony (Thaao Penghlis). Koslow played the beat as if Kate were treating Anna like a servant or assistant to Tony — not his wife.

It was clear from the beginning that Anna felt she was in the power position. For starters, she wasn't going to be ordered around by Kate. "No," shrugged Anna with a beaming smile at Kate's request before she added, "For one thing, Tony's not here, but anything you have to say to him you can say to me."

And it was on! Anna wasn't going to let Kate treat her with disrespect. Kate wasn't about to let her act as a barrier to getting to Tony.

The two traded barbs while recapping the show's current story. Hunley had Anna grab the control by pointing out to Kate that she was trying to help Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) out of a jam.

"So did Philip send mommy over to plead his case on his behalf?" Anna quipped, making a dig that a grown man had to have his mother fight his battles.

If you want to fire back at someone in an argument, you can mock what they're saying to you. While Kate is classy and elegant, she's not above employing this technique. Anna said that there'd be a meeting between Xander (Paul Telfer) and Philip, and her husband, to go over Tony's terms.

"Tony's terms?" Lauren said in a mocking tone. "So, what if they don't agree to 'Tony's terms?'"

Another person might be intimidated by Kate's demeanor, but not Hunley's Anna. She maintained the power position that if Xander and Philip didn't play ball, then Tony might be forced to come clean about everything that he knows about Philip's forged letter from the late Victor (John Aniston).

And in this Days of our Lives corner

Kate mused that Tony was going to resort to blackmail. Anna quipped that that was such a loaded word. "I think Tony would prefer 'quid pro quo,'" Anna added. She then accused Kate of knowing all along what Philip was up to.

Anna asked Kate if the forgery was her idea. She announced it was not hers or Philip's. Anna continued to pummel Kate with facts as she saw them. Kate's son was in trouble, and that gave Anna the edge.

Anna saw right through Kate's reasoning for wanting to see Tony, accusing her of planning on batting her eyelashes at him. Hunley kept her character in the driver's seat. She proclaimed that Tony wanted DiMera to be back in the family where it belonged.

Even when Kate is defeated, Koslow manages to keep her character cool and confident. "Good night, Anna," Kate told Anna in a tone that indicated she didn't really care if Anna had a "good" night or not.

"And if I were you, Kate, I'd convince that Laurel and Hardy act over at Titan not to fight the inevitable," Anna added. "Take it from me. It could get very messy if my husband doesn't get what he wants."

Koslow's Kate refused to give an inch, but that didn't stop Hunley's Anna from giving a wicked, victorious smile as Kate saw herself out.

The reason the interaction between these Days of our Lives veterans played so well is that neither actress tried to "win" the scenes. Sure, Anna had the upper hand, but what fun would it be if Kate didn't refuse to let Anna see her sweat? The two pros volleyed the ball back and forth with skilled experience.

While Anna appears to be in winner's circle right now, Days of our Lives fans know that Kate is not someone who gives up easily! We suspect that there's more to come between these two.
