At Titan-DiMera, Xander slammed the phone down after making a call. He angrily informed Philip that there was a hold-up in officially naming Philip co-CEO of the company. Philip wondered if they should stay at the office until the deal was finalized, but Xander was certain they had enough time to attend Victoria’s birthday party.

At the Kiriakis mansion, Maggie and Sarah made preparations for the party. Maggie asked how Sarah was handling Xander’s imminent arrival, and Sarah warned that her husband had better be on his best behavior. Maggie pledged that if Xander acted up, she’d be happy to throw him out on his – Cue Xander’s arrival, with an armful of gifts. Philip followed closely behind, which earned an eyebrow quirk from Sarah.

As awkward greetings circulated, Philip said he could leave if the women wanted. They put on smiles and urged him to stay. Sarah pondered how the brothers were managing to be in the same room without trying to kill each other. Xander said things had “changed” and elaborated on his intention to make Philip official co-CEO of the company. Maggie was pleased by the development, but Sarah questioned the timing.

Philip spoke up first and said the move was in the best interest of the company. Xander added that despite his complicated feelings toward his father, he was still determined to protect Victor’s legacy. Maggie thought the brothers’ truce could be another reason for celebration. Later, the family gathered around to watch Victoria open her presents. While Victoria appeared entranced with a doll she had been gifted, Sarah unwrapped Philip’s present: a copy of his favorite childhood book, The Velveteen Rabbit.

Xander presented his daughter with a final gift of a hobby horse, and the little girl tried out, to everyone’s amusement. As the party ended, Xander exchanged pleasantries with Maggie and left to help her take Victoria upstairs for a nap. Once Sarah got a moment alone with Philip, she tried again to get him to admit that Xander had assaulted him. Philip stuck to his story, though, and even told Sarah about Xander “saving” his life when he had gotten choked at the office. Xander eavesdropped and overheard Philip’s defense of him.

At the bookstore, Tate seemed to be making headway in getting Sophia to open up. Holly’s arrival and interruption put a kibosh on the effort. A frustrated Tate asked Holly to leave, but instead Sophia took her leave and rushed out. Tate lashed out at Holly and declared she had “ruined everything.” Holly was taken aback and defended that she was only worried about Tate since he hadn’t shown up for class.

Tate offered a short apology but quickly returned to his anger at Sophia’s abrupt departure. Holly responded in kind to Tate’s hostility and told him to “wake up” to the fact that Sophia still wanted him. Tate proclaimed it didn’t matter if Sophia had lingering feelings for him because he only wanted Holly. She believed Sophia would keep using hope about the baby to keep Tate around. Holly reasoned that even if Tate did see the baby, it would only be harder for him.

Holly asked if Tate could let it all go. When he replied in the negative, Holly sighed and conceded Tate would be “obsessing” about the child for the rest of his life. Tate got offended by Holly’s reply and by her statement that she was tiring of Tate’s behavior. After she added that the situation was hard on her, too, Tate accused Holly of making his struggle about her and stormed out of the store.

At the Brady Pub, Kate chatted with great-granddaughter Arianna about school. Ari lamented wanting more real-world experience. She immediately shot down the idea of doing an internship at Gabi Chic, but she perked up immediately when Kate hinted she could secure Ari an internship at Titan-DiMera. The talk turned to One Stormy Night after Kate announced she needed to get to the press conference for the book. Arianna lightly teased a flustered Kate about having read the novel and being a big fan of the “interesting” racy scenes.

Later, Sophia hurried to Arianna’s table and gulped down her friend's drink when she sat down. Noting Sophia's distress, Ari mentioned Sophia no-showing her first class and asked if everything was okay. “No, it’s not,” Sophia blunted responded. She expressed frustration at Tate’s growing “obsession” with the baby. She wished he would let them both move on, and she wished that she’d stop being “stuck in the middle” of his and Holly’s drama.

Ari shot back that she felt stuck in the middle of Holly and Sophia’s drama. She again compelled Sophia to let go of her feelings for Tate. Sophia said she was trying, but Tate kept approaching her. Plus, she still resented Holly for lying about her relationship with Tate when Sophia was interested in him.

A short time later, Sophia ran into Tate outside the pub. He apologized for their earlier interruption and unloaded about his fight with Holly. But when Tate tried to pick up where they’d left off with their previous conversation, Sophia shut down.

Tate flashed back to Holly telling him that Sophia still wanted a relationship with him, and the recollection seemed to give him an idea. He invited Sophia over to his dorm room under the pretense of watching a movie that was an assignment for their film class. Sophia accepted the invitation.

At Stephanie’s apartment, Stephanie came upon Alex searching for a briefcase he’d left behind. He urged her to reconsider not attending the One Stormy Night press conference, but Stephanie insisted she had work obligations. She’d already sent Kate a statement on behalf of “Anastasia.” Alex then surprised Stephanie by broaching the subject of sharing an apartment. He argued the merits of living together, yet Stephanie offered her own surprise by turning him down.

At first, Stephanie claimed Alex’s apartment was too messy. When he jokingly vowed to change his ways, she admitted that she was the biggest reason why they couldn’t move in together. She brought up her string of failed relationships, most recently with Chad. Alex believed their relationship didn’t compare to the others. “I love being with you, and I miss you when I’m not,” he affirmed.

While Alex had every confidence Stephanie and he were in it for “the long haul,” he understood if she wasn’t there yet. Stephanie assured him that she shared his feelings and asked for time to think about the offer. Alex promised Stephanie all the time she needed and sealed the pledge with a kiss.

Later, in Horton Town Square, Alex and Stephanie approached Kate, who was setting up for the press conference. Stephanie explained she couldn’t stay because of work, and she tensed up when Kate asked about progress on her mystery novel. Kate had planned for an October launch of the new book. Alex was frazzled when Johnny sent a message explaining he couldn’t make the press conference because of a meeting at the college. Kate suggested Stephanie fill in behind the camera for Johnny so she could witness her success first-hand, and she sweetened the pot by offering to delay the launch of the next book.

After securing Stephanie's agreement, Kate and Alex later began the press conference by touting the success of One Stormy Night and the resurgence of Titan as a force in publishing. Alex stepped up to the podium and sang the praises of “Anastasia." Stephanie and he shared a smile at the remark. Kate then read a statement from “Anastasia” thanking the readers.

As the press conference wrapped up, Kate thanked the attendees for coming and announced the upcoming release of a new novel by best-seller “Anastasia Sands.” Alex prepared to send everyone on their way, until Tony suddenly strolled up and declared, “I wouldn’t send them off just yet.” While Alex glared at the intruder, an unfazed Tony smiled broadly and promised “a very exciting story about a local business you’re going to love to cover.”
