Days of our Lives Spoilers, July 31: Susan's ominous warning can change everything

It's been quite a while since Stefano DiMera (the late Joseph Mascolo) has been at the forefront of people's minds, except for the occasional conversation with his portrait that never results in much.

Now, Marlena (Deidre Hall) is thinking of and dreaming of her Queen of the Night era, while Susan (Stacy Haiduk) is convinced she can feel Stefano's looming presence in the DiMera living room. Susan also felt some kind of odd presence when she hugged Marlena last week.

Both Chad and EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) are fascinated by what Susan has to say. EJ finds it interesting that his mother now thinks she can communicate with the dead, when before she only had premonitions about bad things to come.

Chad is not quite sure he believes what Susan is telling them about Stefano's presence, but EJ has seen his mother's sixth sense at work before. That makes EJ very nervous cause his father's spiritual presence can mean big trouble for everyone around them.

Chad also has an encounter with Rafe (Galen Gering) and Cat (AnnaLynne McCord) in Horton Town Square and wonders how they know each other. Little does Chad know that Rafe and Cat are working together to bring down his family. Rafe is also on Tesoro duty, so there's a lot going on in a few little scenes.

Sarah and Xander's new normal

Now that Xander (Paul Telfer) has vowed never to try to kill Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) again and to take an anger management course, the pair has agreed on shared custody of Victoria. They are also now legally separated, but neither one feels happy about the prospect.

Sarah finally gets Victoria back, but things are tense between Xander and Sarah when he makes the handoff at the hospital. Sarah was already an emotional wreck when she told Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) about the separation, so will she fall apart again after seeing Xander? It will be a relief to have her daughter back, but Sarah is going to need to seek comfort somewhere. We heard Brady (Eric Martsolf) is available at the moment...
