It's going to be an emotionally gut-wrenching week in Salem as the town prepares to say goodbye to John Black (the late Drake Hogestyn). He was a hero and a legend who touched so many lives over 40 years, especially his children's lives.

Marlena (Deidre Hall) greets Shane Donovan (Charles Shaughnessy), who is in town to pay his respects. He thought that when John was rescued, everything would be right in Marlena's world. But John had to play hero, and now nobody's life will ever be the same. Thankfully, Marlena is also surrounded by her friends and children on this horribly difficult day.

Brady (Eric Martsolf) is heartbroken and trying not to spiral, especially since he has to be there for his daughter. Rachel (Alice Halsey) had dreamed that John had died the night that he passed. Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) reassured the little girl that her grandfather would be fine and they could visit him later that day, but it was not meant to be.

Brady now has to comfort his distraught daughter and assure her that her Grandpa John is in a better place and not suffering anymore. Brady is also there for Tate (Leo Howard), who gets a surprise from Arianna (Marissa Reyes). Does she tell him that she is now in a "relationship" with Doug III?

Eric (Greg Vaughan) is also in pretty bad shape, but Roman (Josh Taylor) is there to talk his son down from the ledge. John was like a second father to Eric, and he even believed that John was his dad when he was younger.

Before they head to the church to be by Marlena's side, Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) drop by the Brady Pub, where Steve gives his wife some big news. Does it have anything to do with Bo Brady (Peter Reckell), who has been recovering nicely in his long-term care facility?

Perhaps Steve has something very special planned for John's memorial. Steve is heartbroken over losing his best friend and wants to honor him in the best way possible.
