It's become more clear than ever that we are in the final moments of John Black's (the late Drake Hogestyn) life, and he is not going to pull through. Marlena (Deidre Hall) is distraught, but she has lots of family by her side as more of John's loved ones return to Salem. Carrie is already there, but she is about to welcome more.

Will Horton (Chandler Massey) is back in town to say goodbye to a man he considered his grandfather for so many years. It's a good thing he is now home since his daughter, Arianna (Marissa Reyes), is causing her mother a lot of trouble. Does he know that he raised a wayward, boy crazy teen?

Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) also flies in to say his goodbyes to John, a man he once believed was his father, when John thought he was Roman. Eric's twin, Sami (Alison Sweeney), is also expected in Salem soon. She was just there, and another tragic event brings her back.

Belle (Martha Madison), Eric, Abe (James Reynolds), Paul (Christopher Sean), and Will all take turns sitting by John's side. Marlena even curls up in bed with her husband and kisses him on the shoulder while she silently prays for him to pull through. She is a doctor and knows the reality they are facing. John is going to die a hero after saving another hero's life.

After learning what Rachel (Alice Halsey) saw the night that EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) was shot, Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) wonders what really went on so she confronts her brother. EJ's memories are also fuzzy. He only remembers seeing Johnny (Carson Boatman) with a gun, but he does not remember seeing him shoot.

If he learns that Rachel heard them arguing, EJ might start to figure out that Johnny wasn't the culprit that night. Maybe there was another gunman...

As for Johnny, he is still down in the dumps, feeling like everything is starting to fall apart around him. Between his relationship with his father and what is happening to John, Johnny feels more alone than ever. Can he even try turning to his wife?
