Days of our Lives Spoilers, September 5: Chad's in the hot seat as Jack and Jennifer return

Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) is thrilled when Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) arrive back in Salem to celebrate JJ's birthday. However, their return is not without drama. When Jack is out and about in Horton Town Square, he runs into Gwen (Emily O'Brien) and asks his estranged daughter to join them at the party.

Gwen wonders why she should go to an event where everyone in attendance hates her. Jack tells Gwen that he doesn't hate her. Does that mean there might be a thaw in their relationship? Will Gwen actually attend the party, despite the way that Julie and Jennifer feel about her?

Jennifer also has negative feelings toward Cat (AnnaLynne McCord) and let Chad (Billy Flynn) know it the last time he was in town. Now, Cat and Chad have begun to embark on a romantic relationship, something that will infuriate Jennifer. Chad and Cat even share another kiss.

However, Chad is also worried about Cat as he doesn't want her to be on the receiving end of Jennifer's wrath. It sounds like JJ's birthday party is going to be filled with fireworks.

Sophia's lies take on new heights

Now that Tate (Leo Howard) knows Sophia (Rachel Boyd) gave him a stock photo, claiming it was their baby, he finds it harder to work with her. All Tate can do is look at Sophia suspiciously, but Sophia has no idea that Tate thinks she's been telling him tall tales.

That leads Sophia to tell yet another lie. Tate immediately knows that Sophia is feeding him another story. Does she lie and say she received another photo of their baby from the adoptive parents?

Meanwhile, Brady (Eric Martsolf) tells Steve (Stephen Nichols) what he learned about the stock photo. Steve is more determined than ever to help Brady get to the bottom of things. Brady's grandchild's whereabouts are unknown, which is frightening to both Brady and Tate. They don't know why Sophia is telling so many false stories, but they vow to get to the bottom of things.
