'Absolutely Anything' actor Judy Loe dies at 78 following cancer battle: Filmography and career highlights explored

On July 17, Kate Beckinsale, daughter of Richard Beckinsale and Judy Loe, announced the death of her mother on her social media. According to Kate's statement, Judy passed away on July 15.

Appreciating her mother, Kate wrote in the tribute post:

"Jude was the compass of my life ,the love of my life, my dearest friend. The vastness and huge heart of this tiny woman has touched so many people who love her dearly.She has been brave in so many ways, forgiving sometimes too much , believing in the ultimate good in people and the world is so dim without her that it is nearly impossible to bear ."

The 78-year-old had been battling stage 4 cancer, a diagnosis Kate had publicly shared in 2024 on her social media. After Judy’s death, fans have been sharing their messages and posting tributes online to remember the late actress.

When did Judy Loe start her acting career?

Judy, daughter of Norman Scarborough Loe and Nancy Jones, started acting in 1970 with the British musical Hair. The same year, Judy worked in the TV series Ace of Wands, as per IMDb. Because of her talent in acting, she was cast in many famous TV shows, some of which include Man of Straw, When the Boat Comes In, Play for Today, Space Island One, Inspector Morse, and Doctors.

Judy Loe was last featured in an episode of a TV mini-series titled Fool Me Once in 2024. She was also cast in the British version of General Hospital, Absolutely Anything, and Monty Python's the Meaning of Life, which added to her fame. Judy was not only a well-loved actress but also appeared in a TV ad for the Tea Marketing Board in 1982, according to IMDb.

Additionally, Judy Loe performed in many stage plays in London. She was part of Middle Age Spread in 1979 and Illuminations in 1980, both reportedly held at the Lyric Theatre. In 1993, she acted in Noel Coward’s Present Laughter at the Globe Theatre, sharing the stage with actors like Tom Conti and James Purefoy.

Judy Loe was the mother of actress Kate Beckinsale, whom she shared with her late husband, actor Richard Beckinsale. After Richard’s death in 1979, Judy later married Roy Battersby in 1997.

Along with Kate, she was also a stepmother to Richard's daughter, Samantha Beckinsale, and grandmother to Lily Mo Sheen, Kate’s daughter with actor Michael Sheen.
