Avatar: Fire and Ash director James Cameron spills some beans as he speaks to Empire Magazine.

In the interview, the acclaimed filmmaker mentions how he was almost at the brink of directing Jurassic Park. Eventually, we all witnessed Steven Spielberg's magic in the 90's iconic sci-fi feature.

Cameron talks about that in the interview by saying:

"He [Spielberg] was the right guy to make it."

Keep reading to uncover what more James Cameron says regarding the idea of him directing Jurassic Park.

Avatar: Fire and Ash director James Cameron feels he would have made Jurassic Park "too terrifying and R-rated"

As reported by the outlet, James Cameron mentions that Steven Spielberg is indeed the right person to create a film like Jurassic Park. The filmmaker feels that if he had made the dinosaur film, it would have rather been dreadful and mature in nature, as he says:

“He was the right guy to make it. Not me, because I would have made it too terrifying and R-rated. It would have been Aliens with dinosaurs.”

In an old report from Huffington Post from 2012, it is reported that the Avatar: Fire and Ash director, at the Titanic Museum in Belfast, elucidated that he had attempted to obtain the rights of the original 1990 novel 'Jurassic Park' by Michael Crichton. But it all came down to timing, by just a few hours. And the rest we know, is history.

But at the same time, Cameron also mentioned how he recognized the fact that the prehistoric adventure film was meant for Spielberg to bring it to life, as he stated:

“I tried to buy the book rights and he beat me to it by a few hours. But when I saw the film, I realised that I was not the right person to make the film, he was. Because he made a dinosaur movie for kids, and mine would have been aliens with dinosaurs, and that wouldn’t have been fair.”

He also further added by mentioning the relevance of the film in regard to its young audience. He also noted how Spielberg's artistic impulse actually worked the best for this film. Back then too, Cameron felt that he would have made it messier and brutal. As he mentioned:

"Dinosaurs are for 8-year-olds. We can all enjoy it, too, but kids get dinosaurs and they should not have been excluded for that. His sensibility was right for that film, I’d have gone further, nastier, much nastier."

Well, going by James Cameron's words, we can imagine how the end product of Jurassic Park would have looked like. In fact, an alien and dinosaur crossover does sound intriguing. Avatar: Fire and Ash is soon going to set the screens ablaze on 19th December 2025. Serving as the third film of the celebrated franchise, the film explores the story in the aftermath of Neteyam's demise. Jake and Neytiri's families, whilst enduring the loss, stand against a new hostile Na'vi clan.
