Avengers: Doomsday is generating buzz among Marvel fans and cinema-goers around the world. While other records remain uncertain, it is set to be the first fifth film in an MCU subseries. Fan speculate that it might set a new record upon it's release.
It will be the first fifth film in an MCU subseries, a feat no other film in the franchise has achieved yet. This record is imminent and will be set on December 18, 2026. Though it would have already been set if it hadn't been delayed, as it was initially scheduled for a May 2025 release.
However, this record may not last long, which we will discuss below in this article. Its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, set for a December 17, 2027 release, will become the first sixth film in an MCU subseries, a record that may last for a long time.
Avengers: Doomsday could break a new record in the MCU when it hits theaters

Maybe Avengers: Doomsday is already on its way to set this record. It is likely that it will be broken not long after. There are rumors of a fifth Thor film, though no confirmation has been given regarding it. Nevertheless, Chris Hemsworth, who plays the title character in Thor, is unsure about another film in the subseries.
In a recent interview he gave to BBC, he appeared unsure about Thor 5 happening. While discussing Avengers: Doomsday and where the story might go, he said:
"I don’t know. We’ll see where this one goes. We are unpacking that as we speak, and figuring out where each of these characters goes. I’m just thankful for being involved with this one at Marvel, back together with a lot of the old cast, and then the new cast. It’s something I certainly love. We’ll see what happens."
This might suggest that the Avengers: Doomsday could remain the first fifth film in an MCU subseries for a while.
How many MCU subseries with four films are there?

Let's count. The first of such subseries came in 2011 with Thor, beginning the journey of Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) as an arrogant hero. Over time, he became a better person, and by the fourth film, his character had clearly evolved.
Next, we have the second subseries with four films, starting the same year with Captain America: The First Avenger. The most recent film in this subseries came this year with the new and flying hero, Captain America: Brave New World.
After that, the third subseries with four films began the following year with The Avengers, which concluded Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fourth film in it, Avengers: Endgame, was released in 2019 and became one of the highest-grossing movies globally.
Lastly, the fourth MCU subseries began in 2017 with Spider-Man: Homecoming. Though we cannot yet count it fully, as the fourth film in the subseries, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is still in the works.
