An analysis of the box office performance of Black Phone 2
In its third weekend, that is, the Halloween weekend, Black Phone 2 has collected up to $104,709,710 in its global collection. This is huge, given the fact that the overall commercial performance in the theaters during this year's spooky weekend has been significantly low otherwise.
As per Deadline, in its international box office collection, the film collected up to $7.3 million that weekend. So, in total, the collection went up to $43,256,000. Outside the United States, the film is screened in 78 countries, with the highest viewership gained from Mexico, as it collected $9.8 million.
After that comes the United Kingdom, garnering up to $4.3 million. The rest of the countries fetching huge collections are Brazil, which has $3 million, along with Australia and France, garnering up to $2.3 million and $1.7 million, respectively.
The predecessor film, The Black Phone, performed just 10% shorter than its sequel at a similar stage. The total worldwide collection of the 2021 film is $161,440,742. Going by the current performance of its sequel, we can certainly expect it to transcend its original film's commercial performance.
This sequel opened with a domestic collection of $27,332,040. It fit well within its goal, as it was aiming to garner up to $23 million to $29 million, as reported by Variety. So this is indeed a big milestone in terms of its commercial performance.
As per the outlet, the film was made on a budget of $30 million. According to its current numbers, the horror sequel has not only recovered its budget but also gained a huge profit with the remaining $70 million.
In its domestic collection in the third week, Black Phone 2 has collected up to $8 million. That makes the film ranked #2, as Regretting You tops the list with a collection of $8.1 million. Given its marginal difference, we never know how the ranking will change soon, too. Hence, the total domestic collection of the horror film comes up to $61,453,710. Interestingly, both of these contending films are by Mason Thames.
Along with Thames and Ethan Hawke, the film also stars Madeleine McGraw, Demián Bichir, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies, and many more.
