Did Kate Gosselin cause her children's estrangement? Reality star responds to Collin's accusations

Former reality TV star Kate Gosselin has responded to her son Collin's accusations. The Jon & Kate Plus 8 star denied the accusations that her second-born sextuplet made against her about driving a wedge between him and his siblings. In one of his recent TikTok videos, he claimed that he and his siblings were "forced apart" by their mother.

However, this accusation was brought to Kate's attention by a TikTok user who shared a screenshot of Collin's video. Kate Gosselin responded in just two words, along with a sad crying emoji. She wrote:

"He knows why..😢," she did not provide any context or further explanation about what she meant by the comment.

However, this is not the first time Collin has accused his mother of doing harm. He has spoken up about being mistreated by her in the past.

What did Collin accuse Kate Gosselin of in the past?

Back in September 2024, Collin came forward to tell his side of the story while living with his mother, Kate Gosselin. He revealed that he was locked in a room in the basement by his mother when he was younger.

In his words:

"My mother had a room built in our unfinished section of the storage basement... She had a room put up with cameras in it, a tiny window in the corner and it was bolt-locked from the outside. It was like a containment room, and it had a mattress on the floor and that's how I lived... When my mother would put me in that room multiple times, she had zip-tied my hands and feet together and bolt locked the door, turned the lights off and had cameras there just watching me."

He also added that Kate Gosselin became "physically aggressive and verbally very abusive" towards him.

He revealed how his mother's "punishments" affected him. Collin said:

"I didn't go to school after a certain point... So, most of the day I was in that room and I was away from my siblings and I never really went outside. I never played with them. I was kept there. It was literally containment."

He also had this to say about his mother:

"I definitely went through it a lot as a kid from my mother's end. So it was tough. I just remember being isolated from my siblings and constantly taking the fall for her emotions or the tough things going on in her life."

Who is Collin living with now?

Collin is living with his father, Jon Gosselin, and his sibling, Hannah. Jon and Kate Gosselin have been divorced since 2009.

The house that Kate and her children were living in has been sold off to Jon's friend's in-laws. During an interview with US Sun, Collin's father said:

"My friends' in-laws bought our house and one time they asked me 'Why is there a room in the basement with a bed and a lock on the outside?'"

Referring to his son, Jon said:

"It must have been terrifying for him."

Collin and Jon have a close relationship, and his son looks up to him.
