Ex-NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was rushed to an Indianapolis hospital Saturday morning after a stabbing, said sources. While earlier news had listed his condition as critical, a later FOX Sports announcement offered a more reassuring report, saying that he is now "stable" and recovering under medical care.

Sanchez was in town to televise the Colts vs. Raiders game for FOX but now has his broadcast schedule up in the air as investigations into what occurred that night are ongoing.

Former Jets QB Mark Sanchez Survives Stabbing in Indianapolis

The first social media post had claimed that ex-Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed in Indianapolis and was hospitalized overnight. It became extremely popular, powered by clips and local news outlets. That publicity stoked public fear and close examination of the episode.

Police responded to the scene of a call at just after 12:30 a.m. downtown where two men were found injured, according to reports. One of them was treated for stab wounds; the other was caught up in some sort of physical altercation. At least one person was arrested on the scene, but police say the fight began as a verbal spat and not an unprovoked attack.

Sanchez, 38, is used to being in the spotlight. Drafted fifth overall in 2009 by the New York Jets, he led the team to back-to-back AFC Championship Games in his youth. He went on to wear the Eagles, Cowboys, Bears, and Washington jerseys before hanging them up in 2019. After hanging up his cleats, he transitioned into broadcasting, too, signing on with FOX in 2021 as an NFL analyst.

The stabbing raised questions: was this an attack orchestrated, or a fight that escalated? No motive has been supported. FOX Sports requested privacy, thanking medical staff attending to Sanchez. Law enforcement officials, however, say they will present the case to the county prosecutor for charging.

What began as a trending social media tweet mushroomed into a real and confirmed real-life event. Motive and circumstances await, but this is for sure: Mark Sanchez survives, recuperates in hospital care, and is said to be stable. When more is known, updates will be posted.
