There's one delicious movie starring Nicolas Cage that hit the streaming platform Netflix recently. It shares one common theme with John Wick: an animal the protagonists love. However, Wick went on a killing spree, unlike in this film. Cage's character isn't an assassin but a former chef who has seemingly retired to a wooden cabin in a forest.
Pig, the movie we are talking about, came out in 2021 and made $4.6 million during its theatrical run and $1.3 million later in home video sales, according to The Numbers. Recently, upon hitting the platform, it instantly became one of the most-watched movies there.
Maybe the 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes is why the audience is checking out the movie on their phones. That's a rare achievement for a film. It has garnered 272 reviews. The popcorn meter for it also appears decent, with an 83% score there.
The Nicolas Cage film has left the top ten chart

Pig climbed the Netflix top ten chart following its release on May 26, 2025. It was at number four on May 27 and has currently left the list as of this writing. The top ten movies, according to FlixPatrol, include Fear Street: Prom Queen, Nonnas, Exterritorial, and more.
Even though the Nicolas Cage film is not there in the list, it doesn't mean that you cannot watch it. It's still streaming on the service, and it's not every day you see bangers like this one coming to these platforms.
Streaming services have made films that would be bashed by theatrical audiences a shining success. So, when we have a chance to give the movies that actually deserve love, we shouldn't be leaving them.
The film explores the themes of loss and grief, and this is most certainly one performance Nicolas Cage fans will want to keep close to their chests. According to Rotten Tomatoes' critical consensus,
"Like the animal itself, Pig defies the hogwash of expectations with a beautiful odyssey of loss and love anchored by Nicolas Cage's affectingly raw performance."
In addition, the film instantly became a part of lists citing the best films according to their criteria, which include best dramas, best independent films, and more.
Additionally, it won several awards, including the Chicago Film Critics Association Awards, the National Board of Review Awards, and the Seattle Film Critics Society Awards.
Pig is about the last thing left for a human to care for

Nicolas Cage plays Rob in the film, living in a remote cabin and hunting for truffles with his pig accompanying him. He has no family, and Amir (Alex Wolff), who helps him sell these truffles, is his only connection to the outside world.
However, Rob's life turns upside down as he is forced to go out in that world, he has totally cut himself off from following his pig's abduction. It is the last thing he cares for, and now it's gone.
As the story develops, we find out that Amir's father has something to do with this abduction and even offers a sum to Rob to let go of all this.
