American actress Sydney Sweeney has refused to address the recent American Eagle jeans controversy. According to the Euphoria actress, she was only going to focus on her new movie Christy and won't be addressing the topic of jeans or genes.

Ahead of her appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival, which would be her first major public appearance since the controversial ad release, Sydney Sweenie spoke to Vanity Fair magazine about her decision to avoid addressing any talk about the American Eagle controversy.

“I am there to support my movie and the people involved in making it, and I’m not there to talk about jeans,” she said.

After her appearance in American Eagle’s latest jeans promotion, Sydney Sweeney became the topic of numerous conversations. The blonde, blue-eyed actress, wearing the brand’s blue jeans, said in the ad:

“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”

A narrator ends the advert by saying:

“Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

American Eagle received so much backlash from the ad, with netizens claiming it was promoting white supremacy. While the brand has addressed the controversy, Sydney has yet to release a statement.

More details on Sydney Sweeney’s new movie “Christy”

Christy is the upcoming American biographical sports drama starring Sydney Sweeney, Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, and Ethan Embry. The drama about former professional boxer Christine Renea Salters, popularly known as Christy Martins, will be released on November 7, 2025.

Sydney Sweeney spoke about the drama to Vanity Fair in an exclusive interview.

“I was blown away that her story wasn’t more known on a universal, global level because it’s just one of the most harrowing and inspiring women that I’ve ever met in my entire life.”

Christy was written by Katherine Fugate, Mirrah Foulkes, and David Michôd, who also directed the film.

“One of the things that drew me to this story was the idea of being able to make a movie that starts, in a way, as a beautiful, wild, underdog sports movie, but then starts to shift into something that’s really harrowing and, ultimately, deeply moving,” David said.

He also talked about Sweeney’s commitment to the role.

“She wanted to do the work. She wanted to train, she wanted to fight, she wanted to transform herself, and we were going to need all of that.”
