Florence Pugh is never one to keep quiet when it comes to defending the people that she loves. During her appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast on November 10, she and the British-American journalist and host discussed her former relationship with actor Zach Braff.

The rumors of Florence Pugh and Zach Braff dating started circulating in 2019. The pair's first interaction was when Braff commended Pugh's acting in Lady Macbeth on X, via a tweet. Ever since the two actors got together, comments about their 21-year age difference keep popping up whenever they share photos of each other online.

Pugh and Braff dated for four years, ending the relationship in 2022. However, both actors remain friends and were still in contact even after their breakup.

While discussing her past relationship with Zach Braff and the hate he received online on The Louis Theroux Podcast, she said:

"Within about eight minutes of the photo being posted, I had about 70 percent of the comments hurling abuse and being horrid — basically bullying someone on my page... It is the first time in my entire Instagram life that I've had to turn off the comments on my page. I've never been an Instagram page that encourages that. I’ve never been an Instagram page that likes that toxic vibe."

Florence Pugh decided that she could not sit back and be quiet while her partner gets all the hate. She decided to call the haters out in a video. She explained:

"It got to the point where it was just really horrible to see someone that you are with receiving that, and it was never at me, it was only at him... And I think I just needed to kind of just check everyone, and so I made a video and it got a lot of love and lots of people were supportive, which was great. I do think people online need to be reminded that we're real."

Pugh emphasized the fact that fans and followers often say what they want regarding a certain actor or celebrity, without thinking about how the other person would feel. Through the video she posted in defense of her then-boyfriend, Braff, she is trying to make people understand that celebrities are human too.

What did Florence Pugh say about relationships?

While on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Theroux asked Florence if she still talked about her romantic relationships to the press, and the 29-year-old actress replied with "not anymore."

She elaborated on why she has decided to keep her love life private. She said:

"With relationships and with romance in this world, it doesn't matter how much you speak on it or how little you speak on it, people don't care. They want a story... They sort of want a reality show, and so it doesn't really matter how much you say you love someone or how much they make you happy, if they don't like them and it doesn't fit that image that they want of you, they don't care."

Florence Pugh went on to say that she will go to any lengths to defend the people she loves. In her words:

"I'll always defend people that I love, I will always stand up for them... If there needs to be a reset and a bit of a smack on the wrist, I will do that because it's not fair that so much of your life gets to have jabs."

A year after their breakup, Zach Braff was interviewed while promoting their film A Good Person. This is what he had to say about Florence Pugh to the press:

"I quite simply think she's one of the greatest actors of her generation... She's just magnetic. You cannot take your eyes off of her."

Florence Pugh opened up about defending her ex-boyfriend Zach Braff from online hate during their relationship. She said she could not stay silent while people bullied him and reminded fans that celebrities are human, too. Now, Pugh chooses to keep her love life private, focusing on protecting her peace and the people she cares about.
