On August 24, misinformation circulated online that army veteran and independent wrestler Syko Stu, whose real name is Stuart Smith, was reportedly dead after his ring fight with Raja Jackson escalated at a KnokX Pro Entertainment & Academy event in California on Saturday.

As shown in a now-viral clip, Raja rushed into the ring and tossed Syko up in the air, before smashing him back on the mat, with the latter losing his consciousness. Jackson then mounted on top of Smith and threw over a dozen punches at his face, before the referee and other wrestlers pulled him away.

However, Syko Stu is not dead. According to ringsidenews.com, a fellow independent wrestler named Doug Malo told USA Today over the weekend that Stu was “awake and talking” at the hospital, although his condition was serious.

Malo, who was present during Syko Stu and Raja Jackson’s fight, interfered and brought the situation under control, preventing the latter from causing the former fatal injuries.

Stuart Smith might be released from the hospital soon, according to Doug Malo, who further revealed that the army vet suffered “broken bones in his face and lost a lot of teeth.”

Recollecting the scene, Malo added, “He was choking on his own blood and teeth. Somebody reminded me there’s kids there, and then I was like ‘oh my God.’”

The case is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. Meanwhile, UFC legend Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, who is the father of Raja Jackson, took to X and wrote that Stu was “awake and stable.” He further mentioned that he did not condone his son’s actions.

Exploring further the circumstances surrounding Syko Stu and Raja Jackson’s fight

Hours before Syko Stu and Raja Jackson took to the ring at the KnokX Pro Wrestling Academy match in California on August 23, they got involved in a confrontation.

According to TMZ Sports, Stu hit Jackson on the side of his head with a crushed beer can outside of the venue. However, soon after, he apologized for his actions, and the duo shook hands in front of the camera. Meanwhile, another viral clip showed a backstage individual named AJ Mana telling Raja, 25, to “give him his f**king receipt” during the match.

Later, things escalated during the match, and Stuart Smith ended up in the hospital with serious injuries, including “facial fractures and dental trauma.” The entire incident was livestreamed on the Kick platform, where Raja Jackson has now been banned indefinitely.

According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, the spot between Smith and Jackson was pre-planned. However, the assault was unexpected.

While Raja hasn’t addressed the assault on Syko Stu yet, his father, Rampage Jackson, shared a tweet on Sunday.

“I want to clear up the misinformation about my son Raja. I’ve been confirmed that the wrestler (Stuart Smith, aka Syko Stu) is awake and stable. Raja was unexpectedly hit in the side of the head by him moments before Smith’s match. Raja was told that he could get his ‘payback’ in the ring. I thought it was a part of the show,” Rampage wrote.

He called his son’s action “bad judgment” and a “work that went wrong,” adding Raja isn’t an “MMA fighter, not a pro wrestler” who had “no business being involved in an event like this.”

“I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL! He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact. As a father, I’m deeply concerned with his health AND the well-being of Mr. Smith,” Quinton Jackson continued.

The former light heavyweight champion concluded by saying that he was “very upset” with the entire incident, but his “main concern now is that Mr. Smith will make a speedy recovery.” Rampage Jackson apologized on his son’s behalf and to the streaming platform Kick for the situation.

Besides Doug Malo, Syko Stu’s friend, Marcus Hamm, shared a post on Facebook on Sunday giving an update about his current state.

“I know this is all over the media right now, and I have absolutely nothing to say regarding what transpired, but I want everyone who is concerned for Stuart Smith to know that he is awake now, but in bad shape, so please keep him in your prayers. It’s going to be a long road to recovery,” Hamm wrote with a picture of him, Stu, and others.

Smith's brother Andrew also shared a Facebook post sharing Syko Stu was "stable but in critical care."

KnokX Pro responded to the incident and called Raja Smith’s action “a selfish, irresponsible act of violence.”

“This egregious act is reprehensible and never should have occurred,” they wrote on Facebook.

KnokX Pro added that their “thoughts and prayers” are with Syko Stu, and he remained a “priority” as they were “monitoring his well-being.” The academy confirmed that the match was “planned and agreed upon,” but what transpired was unprecedented, and in their 17 years of operation, nothing so “heinous” has ever happened. They apologized to their patrons and fans for the incident.

Raja Jackson’s attack on Syko Stu has sparked widespread online outrage alongside an LAPD investigation. However, nobody has been charged as per latest reports.
