Now we know what is not the runtime of Superman. On May 27, 2025, the X account @DCFilmNews revealed through one of the posts that the movie will have a runtime of 122 minutes, i.e., 2 hours and 2 minutes. However, James Gunn has officially confirmed that the movie's run time is not officially confirmed as of now.
The movie releasing this July will be the first solo Superman movie in 12 years since 2013's Man of Steel. The movie will feature David Corenswet as the titular character and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. At the beginning of this week, the rumored runtime of the movie was revealed, but director James Gunn has confirmed that 122 minutes is not the runtime.
Gunn did so through a comment on one of his Threads posts. Moreover, in the same comment, the director went on to reveal that he and his team are going to work on completing some visual effects sequences of Superman this weekend.
Superman's runtime revealed:
As stated before, the X account @DCFilmNews posted the supposed runtime for James Gunn's Superman. The account revealed that the movie has a runtime of 2 hours and 2 minutes and claimed that they got it through international distributors. However, this rumor was shot down by James Gunn, who is the director of the movie and co-CEO of DC Studios.
One of the DC fans asked Gunn whether the movie really has a runtime of 122 minutes. To this question, Gunn responded:
"That is not correct. It's almost totally locked - meaning we're just finishing a couple VFX shots over the weekend - but that's not the running time."
Therefore, based on Gunn's comments, we can ascertain that the runtime of the movie as of now remains unknown. Moreover, it looks like the filmmaker is working on polishing a few visual effects of the movie for now, meaning that Superman will be completed soon.
What will the movie be about?
As of now, there are two trailers for Superman and an extended preview that expands upon the moment where Krypto drags the injured Man of Steel on the snow. However, despite the three footage from the movie, its plot and story remain unknown for now. However, we know that the central antagonist of the movie is Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor.
However, we do know the timeline of the movie, though. Looks like the movie is ignoring the origin tale of the last son of Krypton, because that has been explored enough times already. Therefore, it is refreshing to learn that the upcoming Summer blockbuster is going to begin right in the middle of the Man of Steel's career as a superhero.
James Gunn told this to reporters during a June 2024 set visit:
"It was about really putting us in the middle of the action from the beginning. And there's a lot of these things in this movie now that I've been making it for over a year that I think of as normal. But now when you bring it up, I go, oh yeah, that's pretty unusual. We just start in the middle of the action. Superman's already existing. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex hates Superman's guts from the beginning, although they don't know each other personally. So we start right in the middle of the action. It takes place over a short amount of time."
When do you think that the runtime of the movie will be officially confirmed?
