Superman's marketing is in full swing as the DCU Summer blockbuster is just nearly 20 days away. One of the latest marketing pushes was actress Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane, appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show. In that talk show, viewers also got a new clip from the movie that was posted by a fan account on X (formerly Twitter).

In that clip, Clark Kent and Lois Lane share a contentious conversation as the former decides to give an interview to his journalist girlfriend as his superpowered alter-ego. This interaction is something that even the Superman trailer released last month hinted at. This new clip from The Kelly Clarkson Show provides more context for this charged interaction.

Lois, in this movie, knows that Clark is Superman:

As stated before, the clip posted by a fan account above was released on The Kelly Clarkson Show. In the clip above, we see more of the opening scene from last month's trailer opening scene, where Clark emulates his superhero persona, gives an interview to Lois Lane, who is aware of his secret.

This is different from other adaptations (except for Man of Steel) of the Last Son of Krypton, where Clark doesn't reveal his secret to Lois after a while. But it needs to be noted that this version of Clark has three years of experience as a superhero, suggesting that he may have revealed this secret to Lois some time before the events of the movie.

Gunn himself confirmed that Clark has been Superman in the movie for three years in an interview with Fandango that was posted on June 11, 2025. The filmmaker's exact words were:

"We're introducing a whole new world. We're in an alternate reality where superheroes have existed for 300 years and we're just picking up on the story of one particular superhero three years after he comes on the scene, who happens to be the most powerful metahuman of all time."

Thus, it seems that the upcoming movie will be skipping the well-treaded origin tale and put viewers right in the middle of Superman's career.

Why is this exchange between Clark and Lois refreshing?

The previous adaptations of the character featured an interview between the Man of Steel and Lois Lane since 1978's Superman: The Movie. However, every version of the interview took place in the first year of Clark's superhero career, and Lois is unaware of his secret.

However, this movie switches things up as Clark has been a hero for three years, and it seems this might be the first interview. Clark goes into this interview thinking that Lois will be asking flowery questions, only to be confronted with some hard questions he did not expect.

Given how divisive things are in today's world, the two share a heated exchange where Lois tries to get Clark to see that his actions might have unforeseen consequences, while Clark wants Lois to see that he had to take the action or people would've died. In an era when heated exchanges between loved ones are common, it was refreshing to see one of the most iconic couples in the comics have a human moment.

"“Superman,” DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind."
