As per The Hollywood Reporter, it has been revealed that a sequel to the recently released live-action version of the animated film is soon going to be made. Not only that, but the OG creator behind the animated feature, Chris Sanders, is at the stage of ultimate talks with Disney about his association with the project as the writer.

The 2025 film, helmed by Dean Fleischer Camp, has been remodeled into a live-action from the animated film. The film stars Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Zach Galifianakis, and many more.

Chris Sanders's comeback in the sequel to Lilo & Stitch live-action is on the cards, but not as a director!

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, it is revealed that Chris Sanders is in the process of conferring with Disney to write the sequel. Sanders wrote the script as well as co-helmed the original 2004 animated film Lilo & Stitch with Dean DeBlois. In both the animated and the live-action films, Chris Sanders voiced the role of our adorable Stitch.

The live-action sequel will feature a brand-new script and storyline. Hence, it shall not follow in the footsteps of how the earlier animated film's storyline was taken forward in their follow-ups to direct-to-video films and television series. The producer of the live-action film, Jonathan Eirich, will be supporting the upcoming film as well. No more details about the plot of its sequel have been revealed yet.

The idea of a sequel to the immensely successful live-action seems to be a lucrative idea for Disney and the legacy of Lilo & Stitch. The massive loyal fanbase of the wholesome story of friendship is already evident, as we can witness in the box-office collections of the freshly released film.

Upon its release on 23rd May 2025, the live-action of Lilo & Stitch was a historic box office success, garnering a worldwide collection of up to $1,008,853,395. Going by the numbers from its global box-office performance, this film shot up to the second position in the list of the highest-grossing films worldwide in 2025. It is followed by Jiaozi's Ne Zha II, which tops the list.

In terms of its critical reviews, it has scored a decent 6.9/10 on IMDb and a rating of 71% at Rotten Tomatoes. So, if things fall in place with the upcoming sequel, we can definitely hope for a new perspective and a fresh storyline for the alien-human duo. As we all know by now, things have been a roller coaster this year when it comes to animated classics being remade into live-action.
