Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton seems to be enjoying a great deal of success in the MCU. After directing 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Cretton was working on the Disney+ show Wonder Man, which is expected to release in December 2025. Then, at Cinema-Con in April of this year, the filmmaker was confirmed to direct the fourth MCU Spider-Man feature.
Now, if internet scooper Daniel Richtman is to be believed, Cretton is expected to stick around at Marvel Studios for a secret Disney+ show after directing Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Furthermore, considering Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to reboot the MCU as we know it, it is surprising that Marvel wants to keep Destin Daniel Cretton on its side after this reboot.
However, it is essential to note that this story has not been officially confirmed.
What do we know about the series that the Spider-Man: Brand New Day director is working on?
As stated before, the story that Destin Daniel Cretton is working on a secret Marvel project is just a rumor. If Cretton is indeed working on a Disney+ Marvel series, we can expect it to be secret for a considerable time because he might begin filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day anytime soon. Thus, he might start working on the streaming show only after finishing the fourth Spider-Man.
But, before Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we can experience Cretton's work in Wonder Man
Consisting of eight episodes, Wonder Man is the Marvel project in which Destin Daniel Cretton is involved before directing Brand New Day. The show, headlined by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Wonder Man/Simon Williams, will see the return of Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery, who was last seen in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Details of this series are sparse, but Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum did tease what we can expect from the series in a February 2025 Collider interview:
"Wonder Man is eight episodes. It's a very new flavor for Marvel. It's straight from the minds of Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. Honestly, it is one of my favorite things ever. I think it's the best show no one's ever seen, and I’m very excited to see the audience reaction to it. I think it's a love letter to what we do as filmmakers. It's a love letter to acting as a profession, and it's a very sincere, beautiful show."
Then, there is the much-awaited Spider-Man: Brand New Day
At the CinemaCon this year, it was confirmed that Destin Daniel Cretton has bagged the much-coveted director's chair for the then-untitled Spider-Man 4, which was revealed to be Brand New Day. On the stage, Cretton expressed excitement about figuring out various aspects of the upcoming project:
“I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before. I really wish I could introduce you to our entire team who are working their bloods off for this. They are incredible, and you will see their amazing work when ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ hits your theaters.”
