Superman director James Gunn sat down for an interview with Brandon Davis' Phase Hero podcast to promote the upcoming DCU superhero flick. In that interview, the director spoke about how the movie has some easter eggs that will go on to play an important role in the future of the DCU. For this, he pointed towards the unfinished Hall of Justice building in the movie.

In this conversation, Gunn revealed that the unfinished building at this point in the DCU is owned by none other than Maxwell Lord. For the uninitiated, the Hall of Justice is used by the Justice Gang in Superman. The Justice Gang in the DCU is the precursor to the Justice League, of which The Man of Steel is a leader. After the Justice Gang, the League will also go on to use the Hall of Justice.

Explaining Gunn's comments on the Hall of Justice in Superman:

As stated before, James Gunn was interviewed by Brandon Davis, who serves as the host of the Phase Hero podcast. In this small interview, Gunn and Davis discussed the elements in Superman that will go on to play an important role in the future of the entire DCU. One of these things is the Hall of Justice, which is unfinished in the movie.

Revealing the owner of the building as Maxwell Lord, Gunn's exact words were:

“You see the Hall of Justice and you see that it’s not even finished yet… and it’s owned by Maxwell Lord and he owns the Justice Gang”.

For those who don't know, in the comics, the Hall of Justice is the headquarters of the Justice League. The Hall of Justice is the League's first headquarters, located on Earth. The most iconic Justice League HQ that the 90s animated shows and Young Justice popularized was the Watchtower, which orbits the Earth from space.

The Watchtower is something that's funded by Bruce Wayne, who is one of the Justice League's important members, along with Superman and Wonder Woman. Thus, some are hoping that the movie does well enough so that we get the DCU Justice League movie with the Watchtower, which is an absolute favorite among millennials who grew up with the 90s animated shows.

From the vibe and feel of Superman trailers, it seems that James Gunn has taken inspiration from the DCAU (DC Animated Universe), the title for the universe in which the 90s animated universe is set.

Do we know anything about the upcoming DCU flick?

The upcoming DCU movie could be one of this year's most unique blockbusters, as we don't know what the movie is about. All we know for now is that characters like Lex Luthor, Krypto the Superdog, Ultraman, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, and the Engineer are involved in the movie in some capacity.

"“Superman,” DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind."

We already know that Maxwell Lord will survive the events of the DCU movie, as he is a part of Peacemaker Season 2.
