Mark Ruffalo gave a cryptic response about his return to Spider-Man: Brand New Day during his recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight.
When asked about whether he is reprising his role as Bruce Banner, he said,
"I don't know, I’m still waiting to hear. I haven't read a script yet."
After giving this indefinite update about the status of his casting, he shared his excitement in case he gets to return as Hulk in the new Tom Holland-starrer.
"Well, if it does happen, it would be [Laughs] incredible. I grew up with this, and it's changed my life in the best ways," said Ruffalo.
The 57-year-old actor was speaking with ET during the premiere of the new HBO series, Task, created by the Mare of Easttown showrunner Brad Ingelsby.
Mark Ruffalo's response doesn't reveal any concrete update about Spider-Man: Brand New Day

In August, Deadline reported that Mark Ruffalo is in talks to play the genius physicist who turns into a green giant in the MCU's upcoming tentpole Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His recent comments hint that he may not be a part of the cast. However, it might also be a way to hold on to some secrets about the film before it arrives on screen.
In the past, Ruffalo had accidentally revealed some spoilers about Marvel movies. He even detailed one such experience during his appearance on a talk show, saying how he almost got fired for spoiling a detail. That's likely why he is being coy about his potential return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Still, the actor seems excited to step into the studio's blockbuster moviemaking set-up. In the ET interview, he shed light on why he enjoys working in the MCU. He said,
"Each time, it's a new director, a new world, and it's so exciting. There's nothing else like it. A TV show doesn't change its world from one director to the next, and that's what is exciting."
While Rufallo's return is yet to be confirmed by Marvel or Sony, Tom Holland will be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In an earlier conversation, he spoke with Deadline about the film's on-location shoot, saying:
“Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we’re putting together. So it’s gonna feel like making [2017’s] Spider-Man 1 again."
He added,
"It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”
In a recently shared video by Sony Pictures, Holland also reflected on returning as the hero in Brand New Day and being greeted by the fans cosplaying as his character. He said,
“I feel good, man. It’s day one, my fourth ever day one on Spider-Man. You know, it’s funny, putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow. It’s also the first time we’ve ever had fans on set for day one, so it’s really exciting to share this with them.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release in July 2026.
