As per People Magazine, Megan Fox, during the recent special screening of Jennifer's Body, speaks in detail about her experience whilst filming it. Released in 2009, the 39-year-old star back then was dealing with immense emotional turmoil due to the diabolism of the film industry, precisely, with the way the media used to treat stars back then.

Megan Fox remembers the feelings that she experienced back then, where she felt a personal connection with the character that she portrayed, Jennifer Check. She states:

“I read the script and I think it just resonated with me because there's something about that, whether it's just perceived or not, I felt like I was being persecuted at that time in my career, and I was struggling a lot with fame and kind of traumatized by fame.”

Megan Fox also mentioned how Jennifer’s character arc in the film echoed her own experiences. In the film, Jennifer is a popular schoolgirl who turns into a succubus and devours human flesh. She continues:

“And so I resonated with those deeper layers of... you know, before she becomes a monster, she's just a teenage girl who gets sacrificed for somebody else's gain. And that very much resonated because that's kind of how I got... I came into this industry, I think I was 19 when I made my first big movie, and that, I felt like, was reflecting back these energies that existed inside of myself.”

Somehow, embodying the character of the monstrous Jennifer gave Megan Fox a route to connect back with her own inner power as well. Fox, as Jennifer, was rageful, fearsome and powerful, so undoubtedly, that must have provided her with an emotional catharsis that helped her in their emotional well-being, as she adds:

“Also gave me a place to put those qualities of myself that are really unhinged, that are not appropriate to express every day of your life, but are still there nonetheless. And so there was something so fun about getting to tap into that darker feminine energy that no one really wants to allow.”

Megan Fox further describes this experience as being 'healing' for her, especially at a time when she was dealing with a lot of unrest. So, portraying this character gave her a sense of autonomy and strength, as she states:

“That was very healing for me, because I was really struggling at that time. And if I had been able to warn myself or give myself advice or have any sort of grounding or clarity, I don't think you would've gotten the performance that you got.”

Going by Fox's statements, it highlights the fact how, in horror stories, we witness mostly women being possessed and becoming monstrous. This actually mirrors a deeper social reality. In Jennifer's Body, Jennifer achieved a sense of new-found agency and autonomy as she surpassed the limitations of the human body by becoming a monster. She no longer succumbed to societal constraints, as she became a powerful woman of whom everyone was scared of.

Furthermore, Megan Fox elaborated on how she felt about the way paparazzi treated her at the time. It is a well known fact that, back during the 2000s, the media was quite insensitive and merciless towards celebrities, particularly towards women. That has had a huge detrimental consequence, not just on the wellbeing of celebrities, but also the audience who consume the media content. The impact still persists today.

She states:

“Oh, I don't know that I would give myself advice. I think where I was at that point in my life, so lost, so full of that rage that I had towards how I had been treated in the industry.”

Megan Fox then pointed out about the unfair treatment media would give towards women celebrities, who would find themselves under constant scrutiny. She then shared a dreadful story from her past, by narrating:

“And how I was dealing with fame and the constant … at that time, before we started filming. I just left a premiere for something where I had to go — I'm obligated to go — and I remember the paparazzi were so ruthless back then — the way they would talk to women.”
“And I walked out just to try to get to my car, and they're all shooting. And one guy's like, ‘Megan, why are you such a bitch?’ And another guy is like, ‘Megan, do you think you're overrated? The internet says so,’ and I'm just trying to do my job.”
“I was asked to be at this premiere. I'm trying to get to my car. And so I had all of this grief and sorrow and also anger and rage that needed a place to go.”

Jennifer's Body was directed by Karyn Kusama. Even though the comedy horror film did not achieve commercial or critical success, it emerged to become a powerful feminist film, and also has an immense cult following.
