Warner Bros. recently released an official trailer for Mortal Kombat 2, the forthcoming martial arts fantasy sequel directed by Simon McQuoid. It introduced The Boys star Karl Urban as the fan-favorite character of Johnny Cage, who will enter the arena to help the Earthrealm in their ultimate battle against the perennial forces of the Outworld.
The trailer promised a high-stakes update to this video game adaptation saga, which would bring back pre-established characters while setting the stage for some new ones. One of these characters was Baraka, a ferocious nomadic mutant known for his eerily sharp teeth, which make him look like a beastly and otherworldly predator.
In the trailer, Baraka briefly appears in a scene where he is all ready to get into a battle against Johnny Cage. Unlike him, Johnny is afraid that this Tarkatan creature will attack him right in his face. It makes sense for Johnny to care about his face as a once-revered movie star. Still, Baraka finds his schtick "annoying."
Over a month later, we get another look at Baraka, thanks to Fandango.
Baraka looks devilish in the new glimpse from Mortal Kombat 2
Fandango has revealed a new glimpse at Baraka from Mortal Kombat 2. It doesn't reveal any new information about Baraka's appearance from what was already shared in the Warner Bros. trailer. Still, it offers a closer look, and it feels more in line with how he was portrayed in the video games. The still shows him with sharp teeth and his yellow, near-reptilian eyes.
Since the trailer's online release, video game fans have reportedly been excited to see Baraka on the big screen. Several fans also found him menacing, which is a compliment in the case of someone like him.

It hasn't been the case for all the characters presented in the trailer, especially Johnny Cage. Some fans were not on board with the casting choice for Cage's character. However, they might be pleased with what the movie has in store for them with this character. While speaking about Johnny's arc, Urban told IGN,
“When we first discover Johnny, he is sort of lacking a lot of that quintessential spark that I think fans of the game will know. We start him at a very low point. His career is completely in the dumps. He has no self-confidence. He has neglected his martial arts training."
He continued,
"And at his lowest point, he gets called up to, essentially, be a warrior that represents the Earthrealm and fight for the very future of humanity. And as I read the script, I found it just such a compelling, interesting, dynamic journey. We start this character in one place, and as an audience, we get to see him evolve and grow.”
Besides Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, the Mortal Kombat 2 cast also includes Hiroyuki Sanada, Adeline Rudolph, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, Lewis Tan, Tati Gabrielle, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Damon Herriman, and Chin Han.
Mortal Kombat 2 will release in theaters on October 24, 2025.
