In September 2008, Gwyneth Paltrow, 52, launched her brand Goop. The entrepreneurship started as a weekly lifestyle newsletter sharing wellness tips, travel guides, and recipes. However, the business later evolved into a lifestyle brand.

Over the years, her label often grabbed the limelight for Goop's controversial "This Smells Like My V*gina" candle, costing $75. While many criticized the actress for the much-talked-about candle, she always defended her brand and addressed the backlash with her responses.

On May 17, Gwyneth Paltrow attended the 2025 Mindvalley Manifesting Summit in Los Angeles. During her conversation with the host, she opened up about netizens' negative responses to the product and shared a glimpse of its creation.

Discussing the talk of the town, she remarked,

"We are beautiful and we are awesome and go f*ck yourself."

Gwyneth Paltrow slammed fault-finders' negative feedback for "This Smells Like My V*gina" candle

While conversing at the summit, the host included the controversial candle in their conversation, saying,

"Before you launched a candle called Smells Like My V*gina. Was there a part of you that thought: 'You know, maybe I should start with lavender room spray?'"

The Thanks for Sharing star answered, with a laugh,

"That product is so fascinating because we were messing around with different scents one day. And I smelled something and I was like, 'Oh, that smells like... You know...' I was joking."

Gwyneth Paltrow opened up, continuing,

"And then he was like, 'Oh, we should make that a candle and put it on the site.'"

Reflecting on that moment, the actress also conveyed how she thought "he was kidding." She funnily tagged along and agreed to move forward with the hypothetical idea, without realizing he was assured of the launch.

Paltrow later chimed in,

"And then all of a sudden, it was literally on the website. And then we broke the internet again. And then it took us a long time to live that one down."

The Avengers: Endgame actress got real explaining the reason behind keeping the debatable candle on the website, saying,

"But I kept it on the site because there is an aspect to women's sexuality that I think we are socialized to feel a lot of shame. And I sort of loved this kind of punk rock idea."
