How old is North West? Kim Kardashian calls being her mother a 'special calling'

Reality TV star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian took to Instagram to pen a sweet message to mark her eldest child, daughter North West’s birthday. North West, who was born to Kardashian and her then-husband, rapper Kanye West, turned 12 years old on June 12, according to People Magazine.

Kardashian posted images of herself and West over the years, sharing snapshots of West as an infant and as a toddler. Alongside the post, Kardashian wrote,

“My little baby North turns 12 years old today. We were looking at pics today together and laughing so hard, you were so small. It’s been the most special calling being your mom. I love you forever and got you forever my bubs.”

Kim Kardashian on how North West handled her divorce from Kanye West

Kim Kardashian, who shares Saint, Chicago, and Psalm with Kanye West, filed for divorce from the rapper in 2021, as per NBC News. The former couple’s divorce was finalized a year later.

According to Kardashian, North West had difficulties adjusting to her parents’ split. During an episode of her reality TV show, The Kardashians, which aired in 2023, Kardashian shared with her sister, Kourtney Kardashian, that West reacted to the divorce by taking her father’s side. As per E! News, Kardashian said,

"She'll be like, 'Dad is the best.’ He has it all figured out. He doesn't have a nanny, he doesn't have a chef, he doesn't have security. He lives in an apartment.' And she'll start crying, 'Why don't you have an apartment? I can't believe we don't have an apartment.’”

However, it seems like time has strengthened the bond between the mother and daughter even more. In February, Kardashian opened up about the change in West’s attitude towards her during an episode of The Kardashians. E! News noted that Kardashian spoke about the divorce’s impact on her oldest daughter and said,

“I think it was all the divorce. It’s insane, the turnaround.”

As per E! News, Kardashian added,

“North is obsessed with me now and calls me with her friends. Like, 'Mom, I love you. You’re the best mom, I love you so much.’”

North West is following in her parents’ footsteps and embarking on a career in entertainment

The 12-year-old North West is already making waves in the music and entertainment industries. From regular red carpet appearances with her mother to music video cameos alongside her father, West is a celebrity in her own right.

Last year, West featured alongside her father, Kanye, who is also known as Ye, in a music video for Talking / Once Again, as per XXL Mag. West performed on the song alongside her father and rapper Ty Dolla $ign, whose daughter also appeared in the music video.

The same year, West also performed at the Hollywood Bowl for Disney's The Lion King 30th Anniversary – A Live-to-Film Concert Event. According to USA Today, West’s performance of I Just Can't Wait to be King created controversy and was criticized by netizens who thought the movie displayed nepotism.

In an episode of The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian defended the move and said,

"She did such a great job, and anyone that is hating on a kid is just a hater. She’s not there to be Mariah Carey… it's something that she really wants to do, and I do believe in her and believe that she can do it.”

North West also collaborated with FKA Twigs on her single, Childlike Things, in which she rapped in English and Japanese, per Billboard.
