“Kayla and I both wish to keep this matter private” - Ryan Lochte responds to claim wife allegedly had no choice but to file for divorce

As per a recent article by US Weekly, swimmer Ryan Lochte recently addressed the rumors that his ex-wife, Kayla Reid, had no choice but to divorce him.

In a statement published in People Magazine on June 18, Ryan Lochte mentioned that he and his ex-wife wish to keep matters private and will not reply to any third-party allegations.

"Kayla and I both wish to keep this matter private for many reasons, most importantly, to protect our children. For that reason, I also won’t be commenting on this matter, or replying to allegations made by third parties.” Lochte told People on June 18.

On June 18, a source who is close to Lochte's family told People Magazine that Reid had no other option but to quit the marriage because Lochte allegedly broke her heart so many times and had damaged their marriage to a great extent.

Earlier this month, Kayla Reid shared an announcement of the end of her seven-year marriage to celebrated American swimmer Ryan Lochte.

"Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection. I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing and challenging seasons of my life. I’ve been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds.” Kayla Reid wrote in an Instagram post on June 4.

Reid continued in the post that this was one of the hardest decisions of her life, and sometimes it becomes necessary to make these decisions to protect her children as well as her mental peace.

“Sometimes we face trials we didn’t choose or see coming. And in those moments, we’re forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children and our future. I’ve come to understand that staying isn’t always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love — for those around me and myself.”

In her divorce petition, Reid identifies herself as the primary caregiver of her children, Caiden, Liv, and Georgia, whom she shares with Ryan Lochte. Kayla Reid further mentions that she is the primary caregiver for her children and is seeking full-time responsibility for them and the majority of time-sharing with them.

Kayla Reid now works and real estate and is asking for the sole use of their home in Gainesville along with alimony, child support, and attorney's fees.

Ryan Lochte filed a counter petition, which listed their date of separation as April (Kayla Reid's divorce petition listed their date of separation as March 7). The petition further requested that the court come up with a parenting plan, child support, and equal division of their assets.

In 2018, Ryan Lochte entered a treatment program for alcoholism, the source told People Magazine. The source added that Lochte has not been an equal partner in the marriage, both as a husband and a father.
