Jessica Biel, 43, stars in the upcoming series The Better Sister. In this latest thriller show, she portrays the role of Chloe, a successful media executive.
The actress attended the New York City premiere of The Better Sister on May 20. At the event, she spoke with People Magazine in an exclusive conversation and admitted relating to her on-screen character's need for privacy in life.
Jessica Biel elaborated how she related to Chloe, sharing:
"You're finding something that is in your life that is parallel to something that you understand or a touch point that you can connect to that your character is going through."

She further added:
"Sometimes it's abstract, sometimes it's very linear."
Recalling the experience of playing different characters in all her projects, she added that acting for these roles "is always cathartic no matter what I'm doing."
Jessica Biel spoke about finding her new project's role relatable
In 1996, The Illusionist actress made her acting debut with 7th Heaven at the age of 14. She played the role of Mary Camden on this family drama series. Since then, she has continued to be in the spotlight for her profession.
Recounting her journey and how she often pretended to seem happier, she added:
"I can understand sometimes feeling like you have to put on a happy face, or you know, smile and kind of grin and bear it."
Also, Jessica Biel confessed to doing the same, expressing:
"I have definitely done that in my past before."

Biel further conveyed:
"I understand wanting to hide some of my personal life or you know, just keep something sacred. I think my character does that in a very dysfunctional way, and I think I do it a little bit more functionally, I hope."
Along with Jessica Biel, The Better Sister also stars Elizabeth Banks, 51. This upcoming limited series is inspired by Alafair Burke’s bestselling novel. Based on the novel The Better Sister by the author, the show weaves a gripping tale of a complex family drama intertwined with a chilling murder mystery.
This thriller series marks Biel and Banks' first project together. While they have never shared the screen before, their chemistry "really just came naturally."
The actresses are more similar than they even imagined to be. In a recent conversation with People Magazine, Elizabeth said:
"We work really similarly, which is that we do a lot of preparation. We bring a lot of character work to each scene, but at the end of the day, we're just really open to each other and what's going to happen in the moment, and so all of that was really seamless."

Interestingly, Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel share similarities in their families as well. They are "both siblings" and also "boy moms."
The Catch Me If You Can star remarked:
"We had commonalities and we also wanted to make a really great show."
The Blade: Trinity actress mirrored her co-star's perspective, explaining:
"I mean, there was nothing anyone ever said that was a negative comment about Elizabeth. Just fun, smart, does everything, so beyond incredible, funny, all the things that everybody knows about her from her work, all is of course true, but the other things like the nuance-y things that [I] didn't know."
The Better Sister is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on May 29, 2025.
