The causes of death for Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner have been revealed. According to the medical examiner, the couple died from "multiple sharp force injuries," meaning cuts or stabs from a sharp object.
Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner's bodies were discovered in their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14, which had suffered from multiple stab wounds, per various reports. Hours later, their youngest son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder.
The following day, authorities confirmed that the couple were "victims of homicide," leading them to determine that Nick was "responsible for their deaths." The 32-year-old screenwriter was also detained without bail, according to the LAPD.

On Dec. 16, Nick was officially charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his parents. The Los Angeles County District Attorney also stated in a press release that the son "personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife" in the slaying.
Attorney speaks out on Nick Reiner following parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner's tragic deaths
Following his first court appearance on Wednesday, his attorney, Alan Jackson, spoke about his client, adding that Nick didn't enter a plea.
"Most importantly, this is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family, we all recognize that. Our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family. There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully, dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed."

He continued:
"We ask that throughout the process, you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward. Not with a rush to judgment, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity and with the respect that this system and this process deserves and that the family deserves."
During his first court appearance, Nick wore shackles on his hands and a blue smock, or an anti-suicide smock, which is "specifically designed to minimize the risk of suicide amongst higher risk individuals," per the PSP Corp.
While it had not been explicitly said why the son of the Hollywood director and producer was dressed in it, Nick is facing serious charges and has a history of violent tendencies. In a 2018 podcast interview, he particularly confessed to wrecking his parents' property.
"It's not much of a story. I got totally spun out on uppers — I think it was coke and something else — and I was up for days on end. I started punching out different things in my guest house."

Nick Reiner began struggling with drug addiction when he was a teenager and has been in and out of rehab 18 times.
Meanwhile, while he had a history of having "self-destructive" tendencies, an insider close to the family told People that he was "not violent."
"If they thought he was violent, things would have been very different. At the worst of it, it hadn’t been like this. I don’t think anyone could have ever seen anything like this coming. Nick was declining lately but he had been really bad before."
