Actors Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence now share familial ties. For the unversed, Murphy’s son Eric and Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin, are married to each other. Eric and Jasmin tied the knot in May 2025.

On July 28, Murphy spoke to Terri Seymour from ExtraTV at the premiere of his film The Pickup, directed by Tim Story. Besides Murphy, the film stars Pete Davidson, Eva Longoria, Keke Palmer, Roman Reigns, and others.

Seymour congratulated Murphy on his son’s wedding and asked what it felt like to be in-laws with Martin Lawrence. He said:

“It's cool. We were friends for years and years. So, you know, it's cool to say, ‘Hey, now we're in the family,’ but we Martin and I have been buddies for years.”

Terri Seymour inquired about the family get-togethers, to which he said they are just like normal ones. Eddie Murphy said that when Eric and Jasmin have their baby, people expect the child to be funny because both parents are funny. However, he said the child might not be funny at all and could be serious.

Eddie Murphy spoke to Jennifer Hudson on her show in May 2025 and said Eric and Jasmin did not have a grand celebration, and the ceremony was more private. Murphy said:

“They didn’t have a wedding. They went off and they got married at the church. They just had the two of them and the preacher. They just had a quiet little thing.”

According to The Independent, in 2022, Jasmin shared that her uncle was the one who introduced her and Eric. After meeting, she and Eric became close friends and connected well because they had similar backgrounds and understood each other easily.

Eddie Murphy shares his thoughts about having grandchildren and his advice for Pete Davidson

Eddie Murphy also spoke to E! News at The Pickup’s premiere. Sharing the joy of his son’s wedding to Jasmin, he said they had been together for a few years, so she was already part of the family.

He mentioned that they had planned a big wedding, but in the end, they decided to keep it small. When talking about becoming a grandfather, he said he didn’t rush them and believed it was a special gift that would happen when the time was right.

Elsewhere during the conversation with Seymour, she asked Eddie Murphy to share his experience of working with Pete Davidson. He said:

“Well, I was looking forward to working with him. I was a fan already from SNL and we have a lot in common now. We both started doing standup when we were really young and we both started Saturday Night Live when we were really young and we both lost our dads when we were really young. So, we had a lot in common.”

Seymour then asked the kind of parenting advice he gave to Pete Davidson. Eddie Murphy said he didn’t give Davidson any tips about being a parent. He felt that every child was different, so there was no fixed way to raise them.

He believed that people naturally knew how to be good parents if they loved their child. He also thought it took more effort to be a bad parent than a good one.
