Keith Urban and Blake Shelton might be country music royalty now, but their early days in Nashville were a little less polished.

In a hilarious new video shared to their social media accounts, the two stars poke fun at each other over some truly questionable hairstyles: Shelton's "Unabomber" curls and Urban's shoulder-length phase. Blake Shelton started:

"You and I [have] both been in Nashville since the '90s. And we went through some awkward phases for sure. Growing pains."

Keith Urban was visibly trying to stifle his laughter, and it got especially more difficult when the "God Gave Me You" hitmaker held up a photo of Urban, clad in a maroon vest without a shirt underneath, showing a bit of skin, with his straight, golden locks ending on his shoulders.

"Do you care to explain this?"

The "Blue Ain’t Your Color" singer responded:

"Well, that’s what I looked like when I got here, and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why we couldn’t get me signed."

Blake Shelton reacted, asking if the American-Australian artist was attempting to strike a "country record deal" at the time. Urban replied:

"Yes. I don’t know what the hell was going on."

Keith Urban quickly proceeded to retaliate by showing a throwback photo of Blake Shelton.

"I don't know when this was, Blake, but you got the 'Unabomber' going on, sort of a Charles Manson influence. What was going on here?"

Blake Shelton erupted into laughter at the blast from the past, with a sepia-toned snap of his face flashing on screen, his bobbed curls cascading on his cheek. He reasoned that he was in his Terri Clark phase when he sported the cut.

Urban also presented nostalgic photos of the two of them, which were obtained from a country magazine from 2000 or 2001. The "Somebody Like You" star showed the images positioned next to each other on the tablet screen. Shelton spoke of his medium-length curls:

"Is my face like, two feet across? I thought, if I grew my hair and had it come down, it would hide my howls."

Urban quipped that it probably came from Madame Tussauds, which appeared to be his response to the sculpture of Shelton's face.

The clip is part of a promotional teaser for their new reality competition show, The Road, where they will both serve as mentors.

The series, airing under CBS, follows "12 emerging musicians as they compete as opening acts for Grammy Award winner Keith Urban at music venues nationwide."

Meanwhile, the new teaser is Keith Urban's first social media appearance amid his split from Nicole Kidman, his wife of 19 years. The actress filed for divorce in September, citing "irreconcilable differences," with insiders reporting that the couple has been living separately since the summer.
