Comedian Jon Stewart has a few words of praise for journalist Kaitlan Collins.
During the October 16 episode of his weekly show, Stewart was discussing Trump’s Peace Plan with Daniel Levy and Zaha Hassan. After the discussion ended with the two speakers, Stewart was joined by producers Brittany Mehmedovic and Gillian Spear. The show's lead producer, Lauren Walker, was also present for the conversation.
Brittany read out a fan question, which asked if Trump insults a reporter, whether the reporter should also insult the President. Answering the question, Stewart compared the situation to a rap battle. As they discussed further, Brittany said that Kaitlan Collins has it in her. Agreeing to her point, Stewart said:
“Kaitlan Collins is the only one. I actually think she's the only one that even they aren't quite sure what to do with.”
He went on to say:
“Because she's always just like matter of fact like, ‘Because you did say two and a half weeks ago and I think I've got the quote right here.’ And they're all like, ‘What are you doing homework? Why are you trying to make us all look bad?’ You're collecting facts and then you're going to say them back at me live. Unacceptable.”
According to CNN’s official website, journalist Kaitlan Collins is an alumna of the University of Alabama. She is the CNN Chief White House Correspondent. She previously co-anchored This Morning on CNN. The website mentions:
“Since joining the network in 2017, Collins has broken several stories in her coverage of both the Biden and Trump administrations, including major staff departures and consequential policy decisions. In those years, she covered President Biden and President Trump abroad, and pushed both on the world stage.”
Kaitlan Collins on interviewing politicians and reporting from Israel
In 2023, Kaitlan Collins was a guest on the Late Night with Seth Meyers show. Meyers asked how she handled politicians who avoided answering her actual question. She explained that it often happened because most politicians were trained to dodge tough questions.
Instead of moving on quickly like many interviewers, she said she preferred to stay focused on one topic and keep pushing until she got as close to a real answer as possible, even though sometimes it was impossible to make them respond directly. Kaitlan Collins added:
“But I always like to point out when they don't. Which they don't love.”
She went on to say:
“You know what I think the key is? You have to be comfortable with it being silent. You have to be comfortable with asking them and just don't fill the space, just let it sit there.”
Seth Meyers asked Kaitlan Collins how it felt to report on sad and tragic events while they were still happening. She said she had covered many serious stories before, including working at the White House, but the trip to Israel was one of the hardest for her.
She explained that everyone in the country was heartbroken after the attack, and even two weeks later, things felt different as places that were usually busy and full of life were quiet and closed, reminding people of how New York felt after 9/11.
